Historia
Being an undercover poison taster for the rich and famous might sound glamorous, but for Isobel Avery it means stomaching bad clients and even worse coffee. The one side of the job that lives up to expectations is the money. Which is just as well for Izzy, since she needs an awful lot of it. Who knew when she made a lifelong commitment to a man that it would be one year living with him and the rest of her life paying for it?

Far fetched razor thin story.
Revisado: 03-30-25
Far fetched razor thin story. Only listened to the end cause I was in the car and couldn’t start another title and the performance was fine. But seriously.

Meandering
Revisado: 08-06-24
I don’t really know why I finished it. Maybe I was hoping for an exciting twist but the story just meanders on. Also, it is red in a very staccato tone which doesn’t help.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time
Revisado: 04-19-24
If you would blandly describe the premises of the story and outline of the main character it’s maybe not that evident how this book “works”. It’s not sappy, not sensationalist; it’s both a heartwarming and a heart wrenching story about this boy trying to make his way under truly harsh conditions.
Also, if like me (living in Europe) you only know about the opioid crisis from newspapers and the like, it gives a better, more relatable view of what it actually means “on the ground”. My god.
Lastly, I loved the narrator. Great voice, perfect fit (though have to confess that I put the speed on 1.1).

Rather a thin story line
Revisado: 12-15-23
It’s rather a thin story line. It meanders on for a long time before something actually happens. It’s set in an interesting time period and context but that’s only meagerly explored.
I guess narrater did her best to work with the material but it rather comes across as rattling on.

Almost everyone in prison will tell you they’re in there for a crime they didn’t commit, but Anthony Rourke really means it. That’s because he’s actually Bunny McGarry, who has got himself into one of Nevada’s finest penitentiaries under false pretenses. He is there to bust someone else out.

When is the next book out?
Revisado: 10-14-23
I guess the best sign is that every time after I’ve finished one book, I can’t wait to start the next.
Also, never ever change the narrator. He does a brilliant job with all the characters.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Historia
A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality: the black Chinese restaurant.
