Historia
It’s the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan’s: Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events—mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink—Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she’s saying.

Why are both Narrators talking like Drunks?
Revisado: 03-22-25
Ok, so I understand that early in the story Archer gets hit over the head and sustains a concussion, but why does he spend the next hour and a half of the book talking like he is drunk? What's worse, it seems to be contagious because the other narrator starts doing the same thing. I am 2 hours in and not sure I can take much more. What the heck is going on? Edoardo Ballerini and Brittany Pressley are usually very good, but there must be a gas leak in the recording studio, because the second hour of the book sounds like one continuous drunk monologue.

Historia
Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not "finer things". Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect - wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand - becomes an Internet sensation.

Brilliant performance
Revisado: 08-15-19
Much more fun to listen than to read. The narrator added so much to the characters that I can’t imagine sticking with the book if I was just reading it. Incredible voices with occasional laugh out loud dialog. If you’re looking for something light with a stellar narration, this is top notch.

She and famed forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme soon learn, however, that the incident may not be an accident at all, but the first in a series of intentional attacks.

Enjoyable but flawed by writer's contrivances
Revisado: 04-05-19
Really enjoyed the new Archer character and the interplay with a softening Lincoln Rhyme. The antagonist is different but the whole story hinges on specifics that are withheld by the author to accomplish his purposes. Regardless, a good read.

Best story I’ve read all year.
Revisado: 05-03-18
I don’t usually listen to sci-fi, but saw this with a review from someone I follow and decided to try it. This is not JUST sci-if, but a well rounded story with well drawn characters, engaging story, and well crafted time travel scenarios. I am not enough of a scientist to know if this ‘science’ makes sense, but it did ring plausible. Read this if you want an engaging adventure. Stick with it through the first hour and you will be drawn in like I was.

Historia
The unthinkable has happened in a small community outside of San Francisco. A series of shocking murders has occurred, the victims far too innocent and defenseless. For Detective Kate Martinelli, just promoted to Homicide and paired with a seasoned cop who's less than thrilled to be handed a green partner, it's a difficult case that just keeps getting harder. Then the detectives receive what appears to be a case-breaking lead.

Glacial narration, overlong never-ending descriptions
Revisado: 03-05-18
This is one of those books that was painful to listen to, but would be fine to read. The narrator’s voice was present with good delivery, but so slow I couldn’t keep track of who was talking or what was happening. The mystery was weak but interesting. I may try the next one if I have nothing else to listen to.

Historia
When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

Tedius and Meandering
Revisado: 12-27-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Some connection to the characters in the story. This was nothing like the first book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Robert Glenister?
He did a fine job given what he had to work with. Very good at delineating the different characters. Great voice.
Any additional comments?
The two main characters, Cormoran and Robin are very interesting, but the overall tone is too bleak and emotionless. There's too much obfuscation of the story with so many details of all the peripheral characters and suspects.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Thoroughly enjoyable!
Revisado: 02-05-15
Bought this book on a recommendation from a friend and am glad I did. The mostly first person narration format worked better than I expected. The science was very detailed and well described without being boring. Good characters and several laugh out loud moments. I hope the upcoming movie does it justice.

No surprises in this Lincoln Perry story. Scott Brick has officially crossed the from drama to melodrama in his reading of the story. I still like the characters but was disappointed in this one.

Bad recording quality, bad reader
Revisado: 11-09-09
Recording quality is all over the map, when cut to new session voice tone and clarity varies dramatically. The reader pauses so long between sentences, all dramatic effect is lost. Decent story ruined by bad quality.
