Historia
When “Renaissance runner” (New York Times) Alexi Pappas - Olympic athlete, actress, filmmaker, and writer - was four years old, her mother died by suicide, drastically altering the course of Pappas’s life and setting her on a search for female role models. When her father signed his bereaved daughter up for sports teams as a way to keep her busy, female athletes became the first women Pappas looked up to, and her Olympic dream was born. At the same time, Pappas had big creative dreams, too: She wanted to make movies, write, and act.

Very Disappointing
Revisado: 07-29-21
This book is a lot like going to concert only to have them not play their hits. For a runner and Olympian she spends a surprisingly small amount of the book talking about those two things. If you’re a runner looking for a running book or inspiration, look elsewhere.

Historia
Once a Runner captures the essence of what it means to be a competitive runner; to devote your entire existence to a single-minded pursuit of excellence. It has become one of the most beloved sports novels ever written. Originally self-published in 1978 and sold at road races out of the trunk of the author's car, reading the book became a rite of passage for many runners, and tattered copies were handed down like sacred texts from generation to generation.

Got nothing from this.

We listen to (or read) books about runnin log to 1) to learn training/racing wisdom and/or 2) to be inspired. This book provided neither. It reads like the ramblings of a crazy person with no narrative or direction. When you finally get near to the climax of the book, it’s oddly interrupted by more ramblings that completely ruin the tiny amount of momentum the book has finally gained. Not only is it the worst running book I’ve read, it’s probably one of the worst of any book I’ve read.

Meh
Revisado: 08-16-19
I’ve listened to a lot of Star Wars books and most of them are very good. This one definitely left me underwhelmed. Many times I felt the need to rewind it because I felt like I must’ve missed something, only to find that after I rewound it there just wasn’t much explanation. I liked the characters and hearing about Battuu but overall the story was hard to follow and at times seemed kinda pointless.

Disneyland - as you remember it, and as you've never seen it before... In the Shadow of the Matterhorn author, - and former cast member - David Smith, takes you inside the Magic Kingdom for a completely different kind of VIP tour. Never-before-published stories about working inside the park, growing up down the street, and the profound effect that Disneyland has had on so many people, are all part of this moving and revealing book.

He talks as much about checking out girls as he does Disneyland. I really wanted to like this book but just found the author kinda creepy.
