Long, informative story
Revisado: 04-15-24
I completely understand that sooooo much story needed to be unwrapped in this book and I love how she tied together the history of ToG and ACOTAR.
However... it felt terribly long and felt like I was listening to a SJM version of Marvel's End Game.
I really enjoy ToG, and ACOTAR was fun.
Crescent City series may be my least favorite. However, I like how everything and everyone gets tied together!!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Extremely Relatable... to me
Revisado: 02-03-23
I admire how the author was able to bring out the generally logical personality of the scientific community. My husband says this is mean to say, but I say there are people who think with their brain and people who think with their emotions. Elizabeth Zot has feelings, but she thinks with her brain. I must say, I admire heart-on-sleeve people because I don't know how to do that very well.
I adore Calvin and Elizabeth's relationship. I've always told people we can logically love people and the breakdown of love and attachment is very science based. Chemistry and hormones specifically.
I also thoroughly enjoyed her being chemist who cooks fantastically because cooking IS a science! I wish we had a "Supper at Six" show. Learning Chem 101 by cooking would be a blast.
The persons who read did a fantastic job!
The interview at the end was a nice touch.
Bonnie Garmus, thank you for writing your book into the world.

Enjoyed
Revisado: 12-23-22
I enjoyed the entanglements, perspectives, and closure. When I picked up this book I thought it was a hum drum story, BUT about 1/3 the way through I was guessing who did what and why. It all got very interesting. I completely guessed the ending correctly, but I was still excited to see my guesses unfold correctly! Makes me feel like a good book nerd detective haha.
I recommend.

Exceptional

The writing, mystery, and suspense pulled me in. Although I must say the line "for all intents and purposes" was very much over used.
I'm excited to start the next book! It left me satisfied, yet wanting more.

The end was rushed
Revisado: 11-08-22
I absolutely LOVED this book until I got into the 60's chapters.
The author does not invest time into Tane's story - which is a story I really wanted to hear more of! Tane is the other puzzle piece. We need to hear her story too!
I feel Shannon used Tane as a character need instead of an opportunity to build on another tale to be weaved into the story. In the beginning Tane had personality, fearless, a warrior, a friend, and hidden queen vibes; it was exciting, a story waiting to unfold. When getting closer to the end of the book, when Shannon remembered Tane existed, the author made Tane into this fearful dragon rider who may or may not have died at the end of the book (I'm really unsure)...
I feel Shannon basically gave up on Tane's part in the story. This shows through when Shannon has Tane sleeping through so much of her travel from East to West... lame. Just a blip of adventure to fill in knowledge gaps. Then Tane became a character no one gets to become. Tane becomes a sleeping beauty with vague emotions, constantly looking for a weapon.
In the end, there was no closure for Tane.
Also the author never built a picture of trust and friendship between Ead and Tane. They both had halves of a whole and needed to wield magic together to defeat the great nameless one. She never showed the broken bonds between the East and West being mended by these two powerful women. She didn't show Ead teaching Tane how to come into her full Mage strength either. Tane only used the magic within to weave the nameless one into the sea with Ead... again... lame!
The author had an AMAZING story going and snuffed it out in 10 chapters. I'm so sad over this. Priory of the Orange Tree could have been a 5 star movie made book if Shannon had finished strong.

Simple Story with a good underlying message
Revisado: 07-03-22
The story was simple, and character development is present. I can see the Romeo and Juliet relation. The end message is very powerful, especially in the current age of 2022 and all that's been happening the past few years.
I would recommend.

Historia
Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives - predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning - and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Enjoyable Read
Revisado: 05-10-22
I really enjoyed listening to this novel. The humor is dark and witty; much appreciated! It was nice to reflect on the sisterly bonding, life bringing family apart and back together, and odd culture shocks.
Personally, I enjoyed that this book is on the more realistic side of romance.
I recommend it.
