Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

We Were Spoiled
Revisado: 11-15-24
We were spoiled by the previous two readers Ralph Corsham (sadly deceased) and Robert Bathurst (not invited? not available?). Sadly the new reader would probably be better reading technical data.
The story itself felt like a replay of the one where terrorists planned to blow up a damn. Louise Penny is better than this. Perhaps, events in her life influenced this writing but there needs to be a reader who can bring back the soul of Gamache and the writer who can bring back our old friends from Three Pines.

Excellent story Unfair Ending
Revisado: 09-22-24
Well thought except for not warning that this was part one! Good character development and excellent reader. What I will remember when I think back to this book is the bad words I uttered when I got to the end. I was led cleverly to the cliff and unceremoniously pushed over the edge. CRANKY NOW!

Good Understanding of Dementia
Revisado: 04-16-24
I do hope more folks read this book. The author seems to understand the sadness and everyday misunderstanding by others of the onset of dementia and the trauma triggers of same. Amy, the granddaughter of the main character is such a kind listener of her grandmother’s story. Well worth the read.

Historia
It seems straightforward to Attorney Nate Shepherd: a middle-aged billionaire dies while celebrating at a wedding reception. The grief-stricken family lashes out, though, blaming the billionaire’s date for his death. When the family brings all of its power to bear, the wheels of local justice threaten to overwhelm the woman. As Nate Shepherd steps in to defend her, he tries to deflect the misplaced anger that’s directed at the woman for the tragedy. But as the investigation progresses, a tangled history unravels, including unexpected ties to Nate’s own life.

Difficult to listen with old friends missing
Revisado: 10-08-23
If clothes make the man (for Lucas it does), then the narrator makes the audio book. It seems Mr. Sandford is in need of a new tailor. I tolerated this book because of previous relationship with the characters but there is no life in them with this narrator. The old Lucas and Virgil are no longer here. I miss them. Worse than that, I didn’t even care about the characters. Sad…

Historia
All of a sudden the streets of your city are so overpopulated with security cameras and closed-circuit TV that you have to lock yourself in the bathroom to have an undocumented moment. And locks, which used to provide the recreational pleasure of a moderately challenging crossword puzzle, have become genuinely pickproof.

Sadly, I must say goodbye.
Revisado: 10-22-22
With his untimely passing, Richard Ferrone is Bernie for the last time. For me he really brought Bernie to life. I have listened to and enjoyed each and every one except this last. Mr. Ferrone did his job but I just don’t know where Mr. Block was going this time. I have given much thought to this review. I don’t usually write a review but I am so deeply disappointed that I really have no words to describe the loss of of Bernie in this story. I must therefore say goodbye also to my favorite burglar.
