Historia
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, Miss Sarah Meacham has always behaved circumspectly, until an emotional outburst directed at a well-deserved gentleman earns her the nickname of Miss Shrew. As a result, she vows to never trust - or love - again. But when her father decrees that her younger sister cannot marry the man of her dreams, until Sarah has secured a suitor of her own, she is faced with a dilemma: deny her sister marital bliss or feign an interest in the next gentleman to come along, at least until their father relents.

Couldn’t return it so I’ll leave a bad review instead
Revisado: 12-23-24
Not my cup of tea. The premise of this book is ridiculous. I don’t understand why there’s so many books about Scottish men. There is nothing sexy about hearing a man sound like he is trying to clear his sinuses while speaking. I could not get past chapter 4 tried to return it. They won’t allow it. I will not finish this book. There’s also nothing sexy about having a man being blackmailed/or bribed into pursuing for a woman. There’s also nothing sexy about a man being a jerk and teasing a woman for no reason the whole “I have your book situation was stupid” and I don’t care how handsome he’s supposed to be those two reasons make it impossible for me to vote for that man as the hero. You were bribed to talk to me now you’re gonna treat me like a jerk. that makes so hot.

Too much going on
Revisado: 12-13-24
I can usually finish an audiobook within 24 hours. I am on day three with this book. I found it very difficult to be interested in the characters or what they were talking about. Some of the book was downright cringy. Plus there was just too much going on. “The Rebels” do they have a backstory I’m supposed to know about? Who knows, the book didn’t spell it out. Also while introducing too many useless characters. And even the minor characters have a tedious, backstories. Everything is convoluted, or secretive. Life just does not work that way I paid cash or I wouldn’t even finish it. I will celebrate when this book is over. As an orphan raised in foster care, who has also become an adoptive parent I have know hundreds if not thousands of orphaned, adopted, fostered kids and families Paul’s backstory is a whole bag of moonshine.

Duke is a jerk
Revisado: 12-09-24
The Duke was a jerk. He did not have any redeeming qualities. I don’t care how many babies he carried out of a burning building. I wish romance writers would stop teaching women to stay with men that they should quit. Even if you have feelings for the jerk don’t stay with a jerk

Determined to support her mother and sisters after her father's untimely death, Charlotte Mandeville covertly crafts satirical caricatures of high society. It not only puts money in her family’s bare pockets, but ensures the haut-ton cannot guard all the power and the secrets. Anthony Yorke has a guilty conscience and a brother to exonerate. When the key piece of evidence to clear his brother's name falls into the hands of a headstrong young woman, he is willing to do whatever is required to obtain it from her.

Too much going on
Revisado: 11-27-24
I dislike enemy to lovers stories. I dislike all the unnecessary squabbling, it truly grates on my nerves. If I would’ve read the reviews, I’d probably wouldn’t have purchased this book. But since I purchased it, I was determined to try to finish it. Halfway through the book the song “What is This Feeling“ (loathing from Wicked) kept going through my head. I completely loath Charlotte, and the book because of her. She had no reason to keep that diary and she would’ve gotten her just desserts if he would’ve just let her be ruined. She was so childish and a brat. Anthony deserved better. And there was just too many convoluted stories within this book to try to keep all of them straight. The actress reading the book did a good job

Miss Charlotte despises the man she's supposed to marry. Of course, she hasn't actually met the Earl's son, but from the letters they've exchanged, he's exactly the sort of overbearing brute she can't stand. Not at all like that handsome, witty, romantic stranger she met at the bookshop. She agrees to meet this intriguing stranger in the garden at midnight, not realizing that the man she's agreed to meet...is the same man she's vowed to hate.

Frustrating
Revisado: 11-22-24
It took me a long while to finish this short book. At first I thought it was because it was too much like the other books in this series. Too formulaic. But when I finally came back to finish this book I realized it was the main character. Either she was daft or had special needs. I don’t find either amusing. Her lack of understating was extremely frustrating.
Also Egypt is in Africa. Always has been. So they would see both the Nile and Egypt in Africa 🤦🏾♀️

It’s a “No”for me
Revisado: 11-13-24
If you like my sister, even if you didn’t know she was my sister you can’t then like me. Isn’t that girl rule number one, “thou shall not date, or crush your friend’s or sister’s ex or crushes”? The fact that he went from one twin to the other is a big NO for me. And how many books are the main characters going to accidentally fall into each other? He tripped she trips then they fall into each others arms in furtherance of the plot. There has to be another plot device. 🤦🏾♀️

The story was predictable
Revisado: 10-23-24
I love Regency romance. I understand as an African-American person that a lot of that “high society“ was fueled by the enslavement of people who looked like me. Slavery is one thing, the chattel slavery that happened in the Americas was a completely different animal. However, the most brutal slavery was in the islands, particularly Jamaica, where the enslaved people would not live more than 3 to 5 years because of the harsh conditions and the particular brutality in the islands, most did not live long enough to even reproduce themselves. I could not love the hero of this book, knowing that he was an enslaver. I know some books that touch on the subject put out and apology or write it into the book that somehow they were hiring instead of enslaving. There is no such statement in this book. It leads me to believe that the person who wrote it is proud of that heritage. Unapologetically so. I will probably never buy another book from her.

Historia
Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children. Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family.

Emotional cheating is still cheating
Revisado: 01-18-24
I picked this book because of the reviews. I don’t see what anyone loved about this book. The first half of the book we get to read about her emotional affair and emotional affair is still cheating. Then ex shows up and she can’t make up her mind, that’s where I had to quit this book. I don’t see how she is “in love” with anyone if she’s making out with someone else.

Historia
I'm madly in love with my best friend. That right there—that's my secret. Trevor and I grew up next door to one another. Yes. He's the boy next door. Even now, we rent opposite sides of a duplex, and we work across the aisle from one another at The Corn Corners Tribune. Basically, there isn't a part of my life Trevor hasn't touched. I take that back. He hasn't touched me. He's made it clear we're in the friend zone, and whatever feelings he had for me were a passing thing for him, whereas mine keep growing like a Chia pet on a humid summer day in the Midwest.

I wanted to love the story
Revisado: 01-04-24
The premise behind the story is cute. And it is a clean, romcom at least so far but it could have been at least 15 chapter shorter if the author did not repeat herself so many times about the boy liking the girl and the girl liking the boy (but they can’t just say) over and over again it’s tiresome.

I know how this story ends. And it’s NOT with the best friends falling in love. Even if Chase checks all my boxes—and then some. He’s the perfect guy, and he deserves the perfect girl. Which, to be clear, is not me. I knew one day I would have to let him go. I just didn’t know it would be so soon. Or that my traitorous friend would be the one setting him up with a string of potential girlfriends. Now, I have an impossible choice to make...I can watch Chase find love with someone else. Or I can throw my hat in the ring and face my biggest fear, one not even he knows.

Chase deserved better
Revisado: 11-26-23
I found this author when I read one of her books at the public library. I definitely wanted more of her books, and I realized that the book was part of the series so I started buying them and reading them or (listening to them) I found this book a little difficult to listen to not because she got the autism spectrum stuff or right, or wrong or anything like that. I also deal with a lot of issues that Harper dealt with in this book. It just seemed like it was an unequal relationship that Chase was going to do anything for her, and she made a bunch of excuses. I just didn’t see anything spectacular enough about her that she deserved a man like Chase just my opinion. Although I did not care for this book, I will be buying the next one in line and looking for more of her work because I believe she’s a good writer. This one just wasn’t for me.
