Historia
As the heir to the Spanish Empire of his father Charles V, Philip II came into this world with some rather big shoes to fill. Eventually, Philip would prove himself in his own right even though he turned out to be a much different ruler than his father. He won a life or death struggle against a resurgent Ottoman Empire, he consolidated Spanish dominion in the Americas, and he fought to maintain Spanish holdings in Europe. He also used a ruthless Spanish Inquisition in order to keep his subjects in line with his own version of the Catholic faith.

Interesting, but Lacking
Revisado: 03-08-25
Philip II lived a long & very full life, so I understand the need to condense it for this book. However, several important aspects were omitted completely. No mention was made of the 2 phantom pregnancies of his 2nd wife, or his attempts to become King of England after her death; his 2 surviving children with his 3rd wife weren’t mentioned at all; only 3 of his 5 children with his 4th wife were mentioned, and one, Maria, was written as having survived, when she actually died at age 3. Also, only the briefest of mentions was made of the Spanish Armada, and, once and for all, Columbus did NOT. DISCOVER. AMERICA. 🤦🏻♀️
