Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

I typically do not write reviews, but this book was very intense and totally grabbed me. And the narration was nothing short of amazing!

His name is Matthew Walker, and he's come to spend the summer on the Cape with his parents. Why? Well, he wants to meet you before he heads off to college in the fall. Revisado: 09-11-24
Kristan Higgins never disappoints, and this book is one of her best! I laughed, cried and was totally immersed for the entire book. I hated for it to end.

Great UNTIL the ending
Revisado: 08-10-24
I was grabbed by this story and the plight of Willow (Claire). But the ending just left everything up in the air. Not as good this author’s other books.

Unlikable cast of characters
Revisado: 04-20-24
It is difficult to enjoy a book when most of the characters are so unlikable. This book tended to drag until the last third of the book. Prior to that, it was all about alcohol and drug addiction of the main character, which became old very quickly. Somehow I got through it, but it was not my favorite read.

Hard to listen to hours of physical pain
Revisado: 08-29-23
Hard to listen to all the physical pain the main character described constantly - detracted from the story. The narrator was fine but I am not fond of British narrators, so that is my bias.

One of the narrators was HORRENDOUS!
Revisado: 08-23-22
The narrator who voiced the main character hurt this book. She spoke in slow motion (had to change the speed whenever she read) and read in a sing sing voice. Her male voice was laughable. She overacted in an attempt to show emotion, and it sound like she was reading a child’s book . I liked this story but the bad narration detracted from the quality of book.

Why is this woman SO dense?
Revisado: 03-16-21
I am so weary of books where women are portrayed as idiots. This woman had a PhD, but she rationalized her husband’s behavior in a manner that was beyond belief. I found myself yelling at this book for all of this woman’s stupid decisions. It could’ve been a great book if the author had not undermined the intelligence of Kaitlyn. I know of no woman who would’ve let this go on as long as she did.

Sappy - not up to Kristin Hannah's standards
Revisado: 12-25-20
This book was a great disappointment. So sappy, unbelievable and predictable. The 8 year old boy is presented more like a 5-year-old and the narration of his voice was nothing if not annoying. Basically, this is a fairy tale reminiscent of a plot in the old Dallas series on television. A total wasted of a credit and a disappointment.

Every call she ever made to him, every text she ever sent, every photo of him has been wiped from her phone. His social media accounts have vanished. It's as though their last four years together never happened. There had been no warning signs, not a one. A different narrator would have made this better
Revisado: 07-07-20
First, I had to adjust the speed of the recording since this narrator seemed to be in a hurry. She used a good deal of monotone narration, but the thing that drove me crazy was her inability to pronounce the "t" at the end of words. For example, 'Matt' was pronounced as "Maaa" and 'what' was pronounced as "wha" - this was true of several words, and try as I might to ignore it, I could not. Also, the main character drew some incredibly dense conclusions and frankly, this was not realistic. But, I suppose an obsessive personality had something to do with this. Overall, it was not a bad story, but I know I would have enjoyed it more if the narration was done by someone else.
