Tell a stranger that you talk to yourself, and you’re likely to get written off as eccentric. But the truth is that we all have a voice in our head. When we talk to ourselves, we often hope to tap into our inner coach but find our inner critic instead. When we’re facing a tough task, our inner coach can buoy us up: Focus - you can do this. But, just as often, our inner critic sinks us entirely: I’m going to fail. They’ll all laugh at me. What’s the use?

Mind blowing and extinguishing
Revisado: 10-16-22
This along with Being Good are the best books I’ve read this year so far- incredibly insightful, realistic, helpful, accessible, and well written and read! This year’s Christmas gifts done!

Historia
Lanik Mueller is a "rad" - radical regenerative - a freak who can regenerate injured flesh...and trade extra body parts to the Offworld oppressors for iron. On a planet without hard metals, or the means of escape, iron offers the promise of freedom through the chance to build a spacecraft. But it is a promise which may never be fulfilled, as Lanik uncovers a treacherous conspiracy beyond his imagination.

What a trip
Revisado: 09-17-22
Trippy winding saga filled with dreamlike episodes dripping in lessons — fun listen! Could see this as a series for sure. Now I’ll go explore other Orson’s lesser known writing hoping to find another gem. Enders Game is a fav and Treason is like a weirder younger unkempt cousin of it in a good way.

Ridiculously epic fun ride - perfect pandemic book
Revisado: 04-30-21
I am embarrassed to say I was blubbering in parts toward the end after this unbelievable, nonstop action, excitement with the u likely characters that I totally came to love. Team Zula! It reads like a movie - not the greatest bed to read before sleeping unless you are alone. Laughing awake my partner and trying to explain what was so funny then realizing the immense amount of context it would take to explain why it was so funny then realizing you are getting glare eyes because they are trying to sleep...
I wasn’t expecting this type of book from Stephenson but wow- he can tell all kinds of stories! And again, showcasing his brilliant skills as a writer, a knower of maybe everything. I’m delving into the next book which I know is completely different. Bring it all on! Just don’t stop— I want Zula action figures and tshirts.

Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

Nasally slightly judgey voice
Revisado: 10-29-20
Book is good, contents and words - the reader, not so much. It’s hard too because her nasally judgey slightly bitchy voice isn’t a great fit- it’s tiring and annoying after a while. The tone is completely different than when I gave up and read the book myself.

terrible "male" voice
Revisado: 10-08-19
great book, decent reading except when she read the male voices - she sounds like a constipated person who had something go down the wrong pipe. it's so distracting I had to stop listening and just read the book myself.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Wonderful story, good performance
Revisado: 01-05-16
Lovely listen. If I have to criticize anything, it's not much- Michael was a good reader but I wanted a bit more of the spunky charm while recounting Holly but it might be the best choice, to read/recount her with contempt and bitterness that unrequited love could leave one with. Does make one immediately want to watch the film.
