Another hit from the West End!

I loved Penn in Dance and was thrilled that his story was next. The twin twist was unexpected, but worked. It was so much fun to hear more of Jared and Phoenix's story from Adam's perspective and how they, in turn, reacted to his relationship with Penn. The chemistry between Penn and Adam is tangible and Todd M Smith did a nice job bringing it to life in the audio version.

Historia
When they were at uni, Owen always had a bit of a crush on Nathan. But Nathan was apparently straight, and Owen was too busy with other guys to take his crush seriously. When Nathan moves back to Bristol after a year away, Owen hears that Nathan has come out of the closet, and he propositions him. Nathan doesn't want to be just another notch on Owen's bedpost, though, so he challenges Owen to prove he can be serious: five dates before they have sex.

Great story, ok narrator.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narration fell a bit flat for me. I enjoyed the voices he used for Owen and Nathan, but the supporting character's voices either blended together or sounded disinterested, which didn't fit the upbeat and fun nature of the story. His pacing was slow, as if he was pronouncing each word very carefully. The performance wasn't terrible, I simply didn't feel it was a good fit overall..
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Now the story, that's a different matter entirely. Having read it before listening to the audible version I knew I was getting a fun filled romantic comedy, so I was surprised to find myself shedding a tear or two at the end. Owen's transformation from loveable tart to a man in love is touching. Nathan simple brings out the best in Owen.

A passionate story that's as dramatic as its cover
Revisado: 01-17-15
What did you love best about Dance?
I loved the angst between the main characters, Jared and Fenix. The way that their relationship evolved as each man was forced to evaluate his life choices, reconsider his dreams and decide where to focus their time and energy. It gave the characters emotional depth while also allowing me to identify with their imperfections .
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jared and Fenix are almost impossible to evaluate individually, because their story is so interwoven. I was especially drawn to Fenix, because his history is more complex overall, but without the dramatic effect Jared had on his life the story wouldn't be the same.
What about Todd Smith’s performance did you like?
I thought that Todd Smith did an acceptable job narrating this story overall, but his narration during particularly emotional scenes lacked the intensity I would have liked to hear. I was also frustrated by occasional breaks in the character's tone of voice and overall dialect.
Who was the most memorable character of Dance and why?
Oh my goodness, the cover illustrates my favorite scene. It's incredibly powerfully and being able to seeing the cover model's depiction of that moment in my mind's eye while it was being narrated added tremendously to the emotional impact. When you hear it for yourselves you'll know what I mean!!
Any additional comments?
Teodora Kostova is a new author to me, and one that I will definitely be keeping my eye on in the future. The writing is superb and the characters are well developed. I loved, loved, loved this story!!!!
