Historia
Spencer Crane thinks I’m a human tornado. I think he’s a calendar app come to life. While he schedules? I spin-out. When I spontaneously combust? He overcompensates. And this is why convincing my new boss to hire him is a completely brilliant idea. You see, workplace romance is forbidden, but attraction between total opposites like Spencer and me is a non-issue. I only wish I hadn’t discovered Mr. Clark Kent Glasses is (secretly) scorchingly hot. Even worse, he’s funny and chivalrous, and shoving me straight out of my Tess the Mess comfort zone.

Content Warning: twisted and creepy, bad messages
Revisado: 08-29-22
this review contains spoilers, but I think it's important for parents and listeners to know these things because I really think this content is inappropriate for the age group it's written for.
I thought this book was another pleasant, fun, suspenseful book by the author. But by the end it was way too twisted and creepy for me, an adult listener. the story is about a girl who's friend goes missing. turns out it was all a twisted, disgusting plot by a couple of rich middle-graders to murder a kid. That was so wrong and disgusting to me in so many ways. These middle-grade characters decided to murder someone (through a whole creepy mystery set up) just for the thrill of it! This is so messed up. the worst thing is that the murder-plotting kids are portrayed in a "cool kid" light the whole time, even after their murder plan is exposed.
Another problem I have with the story is that yes, the author acknowledges how messed up those kids amd their plans were, but not nearly enough! the main character, Emily, is the one who tells the story and is the one the other middle schoolers wanted to murder just for fun. She takes this whole thing way too lightly! even after she is almost killed by kids who were her friends (led into the trap by Alice), she acts like it was no big deal! she should be traumatized!! but instead she just moves on, talking about how social media has blown up and whether or not she should go back to the same school that got her into this mess. And she decides to meet up, alone, with Alice! the girl who was willing to lead her into murder because rich kids were giving her money!
this portrayal of Emily was unrealistic and unhealthy. it was like the author just took a serial killer show for adults and plopped it into a middle-grade novel, then made the main character act like it was all just normal life for a middle-school kid. and the murderers were kids!!!! that is so creepy and so inappropriate!
I really enjoyed the story up until the mysteries were revealed and at thaf point i felt sick to my stomach for having listened at all.
the author writes well and writes other thrilling stories that I enjoyed, but this one was way too much. especially for kids!!!! and for an adult who wanted to read a kids book for leisure and enjoyment. :(
also, it's weird to me that in several books by this author, there are kids who are rich and commit crimes just because they are "bored." this seems like a really negative stereotype to perpetuate about wealthy people. and the fact that the same name, Will, was used in this book and Replaced was weird to me. in both books he was a kid who was rich and bored and decided to mess up his life for a thrill. Not a good message at all.

Holly Ash is good actor. Just one downside: Most of the people she’s acting with have no idea they’re a part of her fiction. One that has been carefully constructed by the secretive company that Holly works for, known as D.O.P.L. Every assignment is a new role, a new name, a completely new self. Her newest role is “Margot” and her newest target: a boy her age named Will Aldrich.

great story, repetitive writing
Revisado: 08-25-22
I really enjoyed the story. I listened because I enjoyed the author's other story, Interview with a robot. I liked Interview with a robot better. This story was just as interesting but the writing was quite repetitive at parts. But I'm excited to listen to more from the same author! im a Lee bacon fan now!

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Really unique and fun
Revisado: 04-02-22
I've never listened to an RPG-type story before, so at first I was surprised by this. The first chapter felt a lot like reading a rule book for a dungeon crawl board game. The story grew on me though. This is much more of a comedy than an adventure story. The real adventure happens in about the last half hour of the book. The parts leading up to that felt too easy, and the characters were sometimes a bit shallow. But, this book is really funny if you've played RPGs before. It basically takes all the video game stereotypes and makes jokes out of them or flips them on their heads. It was an enjoyable listen, and I especially enjoyed the end.
