Wow...such a good listen for on a rainy day.

Getting to know the Harper girls and associated friends and family was a wonderful way to spend several afternoon of stormy weather while I worked on art projects. I love the historical details tied into the personal stories. Story lines are easy to follow and I quickly was rooting for each and every character. Looking forward to experiences all six books in the series. And bonus, the narrator was perfect and did nothing to annoy or distract. So often, I love a book but the audio narrator is not a good fit. Juliette Burton is really wonderful.

Delightful continuing story

Perfect listen while working in my art journal. I am attached to all the characters and finding out the next events occurring in their lives. The narrator is perfect for setting the tone and differences between the characters without being over the top. Excited to continue listening to trials and triumphs of the Harper girls and friends and family.

Short sentences and lots of repetition

The narrator is great. The story is not. Short sentences and repetitive. A disoriented pregnant lady who refuses medical care???? A husband who wildly vacillates between ideal and wonderful to undermining and neglectful??? Just couldn't suspend disbelief to get into the suspense and mystery. Also characters come and go but don't seem to really need to be in the story. There are scenes that seem important but then amount to nothing to inform plot or character development. The awful ending might explain it, but I won't give away spoilers; you can find them on the web. I wanted to like it and the beginning drew me in, but then it just left me irritated.

Loved the audiobook and Mike Rowe’s entertaining writing and reading. Definitely will listen to this repeatedly.

Charming characters that grow

Fascinating characters that grow as people as they deal with life circumstances. Romantic and reminiscent of Jane Austen. Very much looking forward to more from this author and this series.

Repetitive so I returned it. No great secret.

I returned it and was upset. The great secret is being an observer of your thoughts and feelings to help with emotional regulation. Well-known. Not a secret. So disappointed. And the music continually in background is beautiful but annoying after introduction.
