Historia
Rachel Peng misses the army. Her old life in Criminal Investigation Command hadn’t been easy, but she had enjoyed it. Now, as the first cyborg liaison to the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police, Rachel is usually either bored senseless or is fighting off harassment from her coworkers. When she and her partner, Detective Raul Santino, stumble into a murder investigation with ties to Rachel and the other cyborgs, she realizes their many enemies will not allow them to quietly pick up the pieces of their lives.

Great to hear Rachel, not just read
Revisado: 12-26-23
Great narrator; good to hear the story rather than just read it. Started the sequel immediately.

Historia
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Please hire Oliver Wyman as narrator and keep him!

Beginning a new arc for Safehold
Revisado: 02-07-19
If you've been reading / listening to the previous nine books in the series, it's a worthy installment, in so much as it starts to answer the question of what happens after Charis' victory. That's a pretty nasty cliffhanger at the end, but that's Weber's style.
The major caveat with this edition is the switch in narrator: Oliver Wyman was sacked for adding material to the text of the previous volume, and Jonathan Davis is his replacement. Unfortunately, he's the wrong reader for the series. Pronunciations are wildly variable, voices for characters are broadly unpleasant and the entire ~33 hour experience isn't particularly pleasurable as a consequence. It's pretty simple: if he's reading a book, I probably won't buy it in future.
