Historia
In Purple Hibiscus, she recounts the story of a young Nigerian girl searching for freedom. Although her father is greatly respected within their community, 15-year-old Kambili knows a frighteningly strict and abusive side to this man. In many ways, she and her family lead a privileged life, but Kambili and her brother, Jaja, are often punished for failing to meet their father’s expectations. After visiting her aunt and cousins, Kambili dreams of being part of a loving family.

engaging
Revisado: 12-18-19
A little slow at thr start but thereafter transforms into a very engaging narrative, almost like a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I like how the writer didn't reveal the fathers abuses immediately but left it until just the right time. It really captivated the horrendous brainwashing (in this case; religious) that carried over from imperialism and colonisation. I also appreciated the constant contrast and resistance first introduced by the grandfather and then upon his death became more evident or rather lived on through Amaka. Amazing work.

This book was out of this world amazing. upon finishing I was in disbelief that it ended and I whispered to myself "that was intense." I don't think I'll ever read anything that's better than this.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

loved it
Revisado: 11-25-19
this book invoked all the emotions in me. it was well written and beautifully read by the author. it felt like the communal sit down under a tree and trade stories common in black societies the world over. I fell in love with Trevor's because she did the best for her kids in a really tough situation because she understood it was her choice to bring them in it. I often feel exactly the same way she felt when she decided to have Trevor but I also think I'm selfish, especially since I'm not secure but secure is relative and Trevor's mom showed that love, deliberate actions and consistency can mold a child in a positive way even in the touhest of circumstances. many people in much better circumstances still don't make a quarter of the effort she did.
