Historia
Sheriff Brady Schell has never allowed himself to fall in love. He's never so much as been with another man - it's too risky. Ever since he was abandoned as a baby for being an omega, he's understood that to allow yourself to get close to someone means to put your emotional safety on the line. Now 36 and unbonded, his omega instincts are pulling at him, urging him to find a lover - and if he's truthful with himself, he's had his eye on the much younger Shane Raynor ever since he wrote Shane his first speeding ticket.

Cute but Spicy
Revisado: 06-18-22
First I want to say that the narrator really gave this book their all and it was worth it! Really made the scenes come to life and made the anxiety or excitement of different scenes palpable.
I loved that the book wasn't just fluff, there was a real plot to keep you hooked while the romance sparked and to keep things moving. The conflicts weren't all internal or sparked by desire which I enjoyed.
The inclusion of a baby was just... adorbs. :)

Until the Confederation created Allora, it had produced SADEs (self-aware digital entities) for hundreds of years with enormous consistency and harnessed their capabilities to power the society. But this particular young SADE was disturbed by her confinement. Trapped in metal-alloy housing on the bridge of a luxury passenger liner, Allora sought to possess the same freedom enjoyed by humans, who came and went from her starship with abandon.

A fun view of AI sentience
Revisado: 05-25-22
Unlike most books where AIs become sentient and we see destruction and chaos, this book takes a different approach, showing humans as the ones being unreasonable and unwilling to adjust the the new life in their midst.
This means that this life must work with those of the race who do understand them and care for them to vie for their right to exist as they are, not as servants and slaves of humans; but as beings in their own right.
The display of human nature is amazing, our unwillingness to accept change and cling to that which we created is superb.
I loved the way that the AI characters were written and the overall development of the story. I would recommend this as a fast read to someone who likes sci-fi books.

Fun Tech
Revisado: 05-25-22
I enjoyed the science in this one for sure. I don't often read books that are mostly science and less fantasy, but this was fun. I liked that the story was able to create a fast paced story that didn't feel lacking.
You got to know the characters and they seemed fairly solid for the limited time we had to get to know everyone.
Not knowing the science, I have no clue if the science of the ships works, even theoretically, but it definitely is written convincingly, like someone actually put in research and time into making sure that it has some basis in reality and actual rocketry/engines.
The overarching story is... also not what I normally go towards. And I think it was good, but is sad because it encourages world stereotypes and views that I think younger readers might be less inclined to accept since large gov't decisions often do not reflect the views of the people now and so in the future more than likely wouldn't reflect the same standards. And we can only hope that those politics do not persist.

Interesting Prequel
Revisado: 05-25-22
You can definitely tell that this is setting up details for a story that was already written, and is best suited for those who want more information of the beginning of the story.
That being said, I did enjoy it. It told a story of suspense and horror that explained how someone who is clearly a main character later in the series becomes who they are.
The tech was intriguing and the descriptions were done well, not bland or boring imo.
I am curious about the rest of the serious, though skeptical about the MC’s view of women and the way he talks about them. What that might mean in future books for how women are portrayed. Are they whole characters with goals and motives and growth? Or are they simply tools to please the male MC, there only to lift him up or support him?

Three billion people died the day the Veech appeared. Forced to reconcile with the world-shattering fact that humanity isn’t alone in the cosmos, the resulting war for the future of mankind shaped humanity’s destiny and challenged it to grapple with its place in the universe. For the men and women who survived Invasion Day and the devastating war that followed, their stories paint a picture of the everyday struggle and experiences of the regular folk who carved out a living at a time when the very future of our species was uncertain.

A fun view of different impacts
Revisado: 05-20-22
This book was different, seemingly a continuous story but also reads like a collection of short stories. As one man talks to many different people to tell a story of what happened from the bystanders perspective. The persons who was impacted by the big thing that happened to the world, not the ones who did it or were fighting against it.
You never really get info on the people talking; you don't know them deeply, rarely getting descriptions, and the time spent hearing from them is short. We are getting glimpses into the lives of different places in time and seeing a history we rarely see told in stories. Even in today's world with our tragedy's and events.
I think it is worth reading. It was a nice change from the standard sci-fi story with the hero and villain, a clear distinction of the technology spelled out for you as you came across it. Instead, you learned as the people did, some knowing more than others.
I truly did enjoy the change from my normal books.

A Thrilling Conclusion to the Story
Revisado: 05-11-22
I will start by saying that I loved this series! It was so amazing, the retelling of the old tales with a sci-fi and inclusive twist was just... amazing.
Winter as a character was not new to this book, but having her be featured more heavily was wonderful, I loved the views and change in perspective to the story that she brought.
While it is still a book about Cinder and her tale and journey, it very much tells the story of all of the strong young women so far, Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter; along with their male counterparts. I absolutely loved the pairings and what each partner bring to the story, though I do wish the stories had more LGBT+ representation across the board.
I listen to audio books at 2x speed, and I did not put this down all day, I listened through work and while making dinner. During my downtime at home. Everything! I finished it in a day! I was sad when it ended but couldn't stop listening!!! I was laughing along so much and also shaking my head at dumb decisions or talking aloud and upset when hard parts came along.
And like all of the Cinder books, this one is not lacking for hard and sad moments, but the funny ones are more memorable to me.
I am excited to be able to share these books with my kid when they finish their talking animal kick, I think that they will love them. And so would anyone of any age honestly. :)

When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

Def worth the read.
Revisado: 03-26-22
I love me a good fantasy book with magic and intrigue. This did not fall flat.
I read this book as a part of a Book Battle group I am in, I normally probably wouldn't have found it simply because it isn't high fantasy, but man would I have been disappointed by that reality.
The characters in the book aren't necessarily new and different than any other book, but they are people. Humans who have struggles and concerns. Fears and prejudices. Yet they have space and time to grow and change when given the chance. We see them through the eyes of Rin, which colors our perspective as readers. It is such an intriguing set of characters that I was sad to see leave when the book ended.
I was here for the twists and turns of the book. The realities that collide and the changes those twists brought about.
I am excited to see where those twists take the world and the story in the next book.

I'm a sucker for a badass
Revisado: 02-10-22
Okay okay, I mostly read fantasy and a lot of it is within the realms of magic and supernaturally strong or talented characters.
And I am always a sucker for a badass MC.
I am hooked. I need to know more. I loved the world building of the story, enough to let you understand how to city is laid out, how the buildings look, without being cumbersome. The characters don't feel flat, even when the women are acting a little too 'fall all over the guy' they still have personality and expression and wants outside of it.
My brain is all over the place while trying to write this review, to sum up, I loved the book, I am excited to read the rest of the series. Nick Podehl did a great job, as he always does.

Not my normal book, but I need to know more!
Revisado: 08-17-21
I will preface this by saying that this is not the normal genre I read, more romance-y and modern than I read.
That being said, I really enjoyed this story. I was sad when it ended as I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
The mix of modern, sci-fi, and colonial story-telling and components.
While I struggle a bit with books with traditional gender roles, this book has a nice twist to it. It very much feels like people are encouraged to be who they are and what they want to be, even if they often fall into standard roles.
The imagery and descriptions are helpful and done well for someone who is unable to visualize images. Not too wordy so that I forget things, but also referenced again every now and then to keep the idea of the space active in your brain.
The variety of story aspects is nice to have, the calming and relaxing environments, the intrigue and science.
One great thing, female rulers, empowered women y'all. Who doesn't love that with every fiber of their being? Women who are listened to and respected. Viewed as equals to the men in their life. Just as powerful and magical, worthy of love and respect. They may have an important role as mothers, but they are also important in their own right as people.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Literal shit
Revisado: 09-29-20
I loved the book its was intense and exciting around every turn. I, really though, wasn’t anticipating the entire chapter of literal shit. Entirely too graphic of its own accord but still managed to laugh about richter’s thought of the process. Still enjoyed the rest of the book and nick podehl is a wonderful voice for the book and aleron kong is very imaginative.
