Historia
The marines have seized control of the Japanese airfield on Guadalcanal, but this isn’t the end of their troubles…it’s only the beginning. The Japanese bomb them by day, attack from the forbidding darkness of the jungles by night, and their ships, like hungry sharks, prowl just offshore after the sun goes down. Whoever controls the canal controls the war. The Japanese know this, so they concoct a plan to send men and equipment ashore using fast destroyers—ships that can come by night and leave before the Cactus Airforce or Admiral Fletcher’s carrier planes can stop them.

Adventure within a historical setting.
Revisado: 04-20-24
I loved the memorable characters and action placed into historical settings. The story is entertaining, exciting and paint clear scenes in my mind. Scott W. Cook tells great tales and I get to the point that I wished my commute hadn’t ended so I could continue with the story.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Captivating

This was my first listen to a work by this author and I was greatly impressed. Plausible, timely, riveting, engrossing and entertaining are all apt descriptions. I sincerely hope there is another book in this writer.

I listen to these books in order to reduce the apparent length of my drive. This entertaining series does that with well developed characters and a strong story line.
Kudos to Ryk Brown

Awesome story read wonderfully!
Revisado: 11-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Alastair Reynolds creates a believable universe and weaves a great story through it. Alastair's writing style is vibrant and colorful. The imagery is vividly created in the mind of the listener. John Lee has a wonderful voice and John's mastery of novel reading enhances the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
While it is highly impractical to listen to a story for the length of time required for this reading I was dissapointed every time I reached my destination and had to pause the story.
Any additional comments?
Read all of Alastair Reynold's works. The order is not that important although they all exist in a similar universe with some similar elements woven through.

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter R.I.P.
Revisado: 06-18-12
What would have made Micah better?
LKH should have stuck with the Anita Blake who had a job and led an adventurous life rather than the new version that never sleeps but spends half of her time in bed.
Would you ever listen to anything by Laurell K. Hamilton again?
Not anymore. The first dozen books were amazing! The last couple were vampire infested porn. I can read either better porn or better vampire stories without trying to deal with both.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator was fine. I had a little difficulty at first getting used to a new narrator.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Micah?
Actually...I would have added a little of the backstory. This book seems to be out of context with the first part (the enjoyable part)of the series. Perhaps that is intentional.
Any additional comments?
Read all of the books narrated by Kimberly Alexis and find another series to listen to.
