Riveting story! Dual narrators was amazing.
Revisado: 03-29-15
This is the best book I've read in ages. The characterization of Harper is so engaging, and the mystery.... well, no spoilers, but "Holy fishhooks, Batman!" Riddle had me sucked in from page 1, and reeled me in through a sleepless night to finish the book!
This book, to me, is like Dan Brown meets Michael Crichton, in the best possible ways.
This is the first of his books I've read, and I'm already on to his Atlantis Trilogy.

Characters are the soul of your novel. This is why you need to make them memorable. The authors of this novel have done research so you don't have to. This book includes dialogue (what not to do and how to make the characters distinguishable), how to do background stories (what draws readers in and what makes them turn the pages), physical appearance (not everyone should look the same, adding diversity makes your story believable).... and so much more.

Grammar errors in a Writing book
Revisado: 03-11-15
The book is moderately useful. I like the fact that it's a distillation of tools on characterization. But I heard a few grammatical errors which really turned me off. Narration is just ok.

A symphony for the mind
Revisado: 02-10-15
This was truly an incredible book. Starplex was a rare exploration of the Space Opera sub-genre, and as Robert J. Sawyer intended, did not focus on a military plot as the central theme, but rather, a peaceful group of scientists who's mission was to make peaceful contact with other races via a vast network of 'shortcuts' or stargate type devices. Yes, there is certainly space combat and battles, but what makes this book so different is the anchoring in real science fiction roots -- at it's core it's about science, and the extrapolation and exploration of 'what-if' scenarios. It seeks to tease apart answers to current scientific knowledge.
To say this book was riveting was an understatement. I read it in 24 hours, and wished there was a whole series like it. But alas, this book is, and must be, fully self-contained. Starplex plucks the most melodious strings of science fiction, and turns them into a symphony for the mind.
The various races described in the novel were also fascinating, each with distinct cultures and idiosyncrasies. Sawyer is a man with an incredible imagination.
Almost 20 years after publication this book remains singular and utterly engaging.

Historia
Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Interesting premise, too much filler
Revisado: 01-25-15
The concept was cool, but I felt the plot was underdeveloped and the characters got too much attention. With that much attention on a large cast, the book should have been longer. For me, there just wasn't enough going on.

Science Fiction at it's finest!
Revisado: 01-23-15
One of my favorite books of 2014. It's rare that I read something that keeps me up all night to finish it. Homefront was such a book. It's full of original and exciting ideas, which is what defines Science Fiction for me. The interpersonal relationships between the various Transgenic castes were fascinating and the overall story was utterly riveting! Can't wait for book 2. Magner has nailed this!

Nothing about outlines.
Revisado: 02-11-14
What was most disappointing about David Farland’s story?
This book didn't deal with outlines at all.
Any additional comments?
This is NOT a book about outlines. It's a decent book on writing commercial fiction. I'd have given it 4 stars had it been advertised as such.

Devi Morris isn't your average mercenary. She has plans. Big ones. And a ton of ambition. It's a combination that's going to get her killed one day - but not just yet. That is, until she gets a job on a tiny trade ship with a nasty reputation for surprises. The Glorious Fool isn't misnamed; it likes to get into trouble, so much so that one year of security work under its captain is equal to five years everywhere else. Crisp Space Opera, Sexy Female Protagonist
Revisado: 01-20-14
Any additional comments?
This was a fresh book. There certainly have been female protagonists in Space Opera, take Kai Vatta, Herris Serrano and Honor Harrington. But I think this is the most feminine role yet. Sure she's tough, and kicks ass, but she's sexy, and feminine, and I enjoyed that aspect of the book. The book doesn't get bogged down with unnecessary description or prose, and is fast paced, and very satisfying!

Abysmal - high school level prose
Revisado: 12-26-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Some uneducated toothless moron, who dropped out of kindergarten.
What was most disappointing about Vaughn Heppner’s story?
This author has no skill with words. The plot might have been good, but the prose was so bad, I couldn't bear to listen past 5 minutes.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Mediocre at best. The fault was the writing, not the narration.
What character would you cut from Invasion: Alaska?
All of them. Actually, let's cut out the writer!
Any additional comments?
I cannot believe audible published this. I'm very disappointed with audible's poor judgement.
