I so, so loved this book. Everything about it was pretty damn amazing. I found the book through Audible's 2-for-1 promotion and I'm so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute.

The characters are great. They're believable, which is something not all authors pull off. The dialogue flows and makes sense, it actually reads/sounds like conversation that could happen. The story moves along at an even clip, not too fast or slow, and evolves in a way that works without being rushed or stilted. Even the premise with Hayes being a movie star and Saylor being a cupcake baker works great, though I was skeptical at first.

I really enjoyed the second chance at first love thing going on in this book. It's one of my favorite tropes, as it makes so much more sense than the love at first site, we just met two days ago thing a lot of books have happening. Here, the characters know one another, they're not strangers!

The narration was very well done. Both Sebastian York and Andi Arndt were great. Best of all, their narration worked together perfectly. And, let me just say, Andi Arndt's Hayes voice is awesome!

My only regret here is that this is a standalone. I really loved the Saylor's brother, Ryder, and wish he had a story coming. Otherwise, this book was so lovely!

If not for Tim Campbell's narration, I don't think I'd have made it through this story. The writing is good, in fact, very good. The story, however, was slow and filled with quite a few seemingly-unnecessary details.

The characters weren't all that well fleshed out, which made them unbelievable. For example, you come to understand how Mary feels and what she wants, but her motivations are pretty shallow. Or, we see the H/H interact, but not enough to make their HEA believable. We're told the Duke is everything, but he doesn't really come across that way.

Above all, the pace is rough. The story jerks around quite a lot. Months will go by between chapters, but it may take pages and pages for a few minutes to pass. It doesn't roll along at an even clip, which makes it tough to sit through.

The narration and the author's writing style were the best things about this book. I ADORE Tim Campbell, which is why I bought the book in the first place and he's the sole reason I kept listening. Any lesser narrator--or having been reading the story myself--I'd likely have quit before the end.

All that said, this was my first Karen Ranney book and will likely not be the last. Her writing style is strong enough that I'm sure to pick up another of her books in the near future and give her another shot.

I've love Sin. He was charming in each of his other appearances in this series and I found him charming now. A shorter story than the rest in this series, but certainly worth a listen.

And yes, it's a little bit predictable at times. Overall, though, it follows the formula just fine and, like always, Christi Caldwell does a lovely job of it. My only complaint is that it felt a little rushed while the rest of the books in this series follow along at an even pace.

I must say, though, that if I had read this story rather than listening to it, I don't think I'd have enjoyed it quite so much. Tim Campbell makes every story he narrates come alive. I absolutely love his voice and the way he breathes life into the characters. He's just brilliant!
