That the thwait glacier appears to be melting. That much scientific research has been yet to be done and further the research is dangerous, strenuous greatly important not only with the understanding it reveals about what is under a glacier, but also about sea life.

Historia
Late on a spring night in 1920, five boys cross the Yorkshire dales to the ruins of Fountains Abbey, intent on raising the Devil. Instead, they stumble over the Devil himself, sitting there watching them. Terrified, they run for their lives, leaving behind a book on alchemy stolen from their schoolmaster. The next morning, a body is discovered in the cloisters of the abbey--a man swathed in a hooded cloak and wearing a gas mask.

Historia
Remarkably relevant, beautifully written, and filled with wit and wisdom, these three essays by Bertrand Russell allow the listener to test the concepts of the good life, morality, the existence of God, Christianity, and human nature. "What I Believe" was used prominently in the 1940 New York court proceedings in which Russell was judicially declared "unfit" to teach philosophy at City College of New York. "Why I Am Not a Christian" concludes that churches throughout history have retarded progress and states that we should instead "look to our own efforts here below to make this world a fit place to live in." Finally, "A Free Man's Worship", perhaps the most famous single essay written by Russell, considers whether humans operate from free will.

Excellent
Revisado: 12-10-24
A good discussion about how we humans of little understanding have created gods and religions that are not built upon science or reasonable deductions, but born from fear.
Sometimes it’s good to listen for a bit and then contemplate what has been said before proceeding on. Pre-hitch pre-four Horsemen. Post Nietzsche.
Even though so much about religions and religious texts, are not true, some of them express some good ideals. joining with a congregation whose ideas we may not entirely agree with, may still be better than congregating with those whose views are antithetical to what our beliefs may be. With the passage of time, it is my hope that enlightenment will brighten those enslaved by blind observance to a book or books that have been written by man. Though adherence to a religious sect may claim that the words set forth in the books of their religion are the immutable, forever unchangeable words of a creator, hopefully, with the passage of time it will be realized that the books and the words within them have been created by man.
We, mankind, have created the gods and rules that we believe that these gods claim to have created when actually they are thoughts of men. Some of these thoughts are good thoughts. Some of them are common sense.
For many religion may provide a sense of ease and certainty, in addition to providing a path to some life beyond our death.
We don’t know what we don’t know.
Religious books written more than 1000 years ago by those who could not substantiate what is claimed by those books with science, our wishful thinkers.
Perhaps you want to believed in a tooth fairy. Perhaps you once believed in Santa Claus. Perhaps you believed an Easter bunny. Perhaps you once believed that the Old Testament was the word of God perhaps you once believed that the New Testament may largely replace the old testament perhaps you were among nomadic tribes that have created their own savior. Perhaps you believe that the Quran cannot be viewed as a book of literature. Perhaps you believe that you don’t really need to follow what is in the Old Testament or the New Testament but do you need to follow what is set forth in the book of Mormon. Perhaps in Buddha, perhaps you are a Zoroastrian. I doubt that many or any still believe in the Greek gods or the Roman gods.
The founding fathers of the United States of America created and enlightened place to live where religion is not coupled with government.
What do we know about what will happen to us when we die? Wouldn’t it be better to have a conclusion based upon science rather than speculation?
So many of the thoughts that I have expressed are my own thoughts yet Bertrand Russell explains that we best know what has been proven by the scientific method. It also appears that it is his belief that the need for religion is based on fear.

So much to say
Revisado: 07-16-24
Little did I not like. I am familiar with the streets and areas of the city of Los Angeles that are described.
This is a good book about family. Tragedy. Coping. Not coping.
Reframing our life choices when the expected trajectory of our lives has unutterably been changed.
There is much happiness in this book, although there is some sadness. There are literary connections between parts of books and parts of other books.
A simple story made more rich by the literary connections. There is much to think about a while reading and after reading this book, including relationships between people, what is important in life, change and yet stability so much more to say I enjoyed this book.

BORING An unscientific, book about the scientific manner
Revisado: 05-27-24
The premise is now a common premise, and has become reality yet again (Covid, 19 ) this book could have been as good or better if it were 1/3 the length . I would not have purchased this book, except for having so many other books by just Dynamic duo of authors. The chimpanzee enclosure permitted air to be open between what should otherwise have been locked and segregated rooms. Call mingling of samples was common.
