Now the critically acclaimed Michael Pye reveals the cultural transformation sparked by those men and women: the ideas, technology, science, law, and moral codes that helped create our modern world.

This highly listenable account is the culmination of a lifetime of researching and teaching the broad spectrum of South African history.

Historia
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

Full of facts but also a bit boring
Revisado: 01-26-20
The book was well-written and had a lot of information. You can tell that it was written by an author with a lot of relevant knowledge. The anecdotes interspersed were also entertaining. However, it was also structured more or less as a long list, naming all the traits and purposes of our various organs and body parts. After a while it got to be a bit boring. Ok, so the eyes do this and the ears do that and the kidneys are able to do that and so forth.....

It was some very interesting and valuable advice that the book gave in the beginning. But all the ensuing chapters of what to eat, when.... was quite boring. The book could have been two hours in total considering the main message.
