Just bad
Revisado: 03-22-25
this is clearly supposed to be something like one punch man but just fails at it. the first 10-20 minutes is decent but you quickly realize they have a single formula through every single book in the series. big bad shows up, big bad beats up everyone else, other people warn mc and are terrified that mc will lose, mc beats big bad nonchalantly and carries on with what they were doing. now they just set to repeat over and over and over. the writing is lazy the characters are as interesting as grocery store price markers and there is absolutely no development that goes on with anything meaningful.
steer clear this story is lazy.

Historia
Dhane kicked the bucket in spectacular fashion, every bone crushed, every organ popped against the full force of a 40-ton garbage truck speeding through a red light. The only part of him intact—whole—entirely unaffected by the grisly affair was his soul. Souls are durable things, you see, like kids: they bounce. And bounce he did, into the abyss between worlds, drifting until one excited soul watcher fished him out and found him a new home, a heaven for gamers and nerds and everything in between.

author gave up
Revisado: 03-17-25
so let me start by saying that if you are looking for something new or interesting from this book then turn back. the writing has the same pitfalls and the mc does the same old dumb mistakes and obvious dumb things repeatedly just like the other two books. "le sigh" (get it? it's funny if you use it enough hahahahahahahahahaha) no really he uses this multiple times per chapter and it gets really grating.
now to my review title. the author has publicly given up on the series and will not be writing any more in the series because he did not get enough sales (this is according to him). he claims to have repeatedly gone back and changed issues that the last book had so the new books would not have them. after listening to all the books back to back I can confidently say this author didn't listen to feedback or didn't bother trying to get angry feedback from previous books. the issues in the books are blatant to anyone who would listen to it.
most of the time the author just does not bother explaining things happening. like there is one point in the book where the mc is on another part of an island and without any explanation suddenly the mc is talking about watching his friends prepare for something (trying to not drop spoilers) from up close. o explanation on how or when they got there it is worded in such a way thay you assume it is only a few seconds of time difference.
same as the last books in the series the dumb things the mc does just do not make sense in any way. I remember quite a few different times just scratching my head as the mc did something wildly dumb or out of character that will/would have left friends or acquaintances exposed to the enemy without help or leave the mc in a horrible spot for no gain whatsoever. it's like you go shopping in a store for milk but oh no you forgot your wallet so instead of going to get your wallet you rob the store and make sure to be as conspicuous as possible doing it as well.
there are so many other issues as well but I just don't think this series deserves more said about it as the author seems to also not care enough to realize the constant pitfalls and issues he just keeps hitting.

Historia
When he was first torn from his Earthly home, Victor Sandoval was as good as dead, alone and powerless in a reality where kills equal skills and losing a fight means losing your life. But he's much more than who he used to be. Now a warrior of near-legendary status and strength, Victor is leading his very own army into the Untamed Marches, where countless hordes of horrors await. This means more Energy and treasure for him and his allies when they go up against a slew of undead, reavers, and good old-fashioned bloody vampires.

Victor is an jackass
Revisado: 03-03-25
this series started well but by this point the relapsing character traits are frustrating to see. he kept thinking he should have his amulet checked over and over and after a while of not being able to speak to the spirit he finally goes to talk to someone about it then acts all sad that he "lost" them. he had chance after chance of having it checked but never does.
he is constantly causing whiplash with how brain dead he is then being super intelligent with things he finds out.
he constantly breaks promises to people only for them to be like "ooohhh that's Victor haha". "i promise my only thing i will do is distract them then I will get out" then he does the exact opposite.
one character has a very valid fear of becoming too weak to stay with him as he is outpatient everyone in power (this is very obvious for the listener) and Victor just scoffs and gaslights them about it saying their fear and worry is invalid.
Victor is an bully. there is a character who was an enemy and is now helping them and every talk he has with them he does his best to terrify them. I have not finished the book yet but fully expect the author to be like "see they were evil all along so it's ok to constantly bully and threaten someone as long as the mc dislikes them!"
he constantly talks about free will and not wanting others to be unable to make choices and such but over and over in these books he is only giving people 1 choice in their actions or not allowing them to do what they want and instead doing it himself and...surprise suprise....he gets more powerful while they stay at the same power level.
so as I said in the title. Victor is a jackass

Eric was as shocked as everyone else when the apocalypse struck, but unlike his mother's movie, there were no chosen heroes destined to fight the beast hordes now overrunning the planet. Just people trying desperately to survive. Yet there was a glimmer of hope that humanity could hold on to. A chosen few really could level up in this brave new world, and embrace magic, adventure, and the potential for limitless power!

Worst book i have listened to yet
Revisado: 01-29-25
This book is horrible. the author and narrator area match made in heaven. they are perfection. an angsty teen writing a book with an uncle narrator that never moved out of the basement and wears leather jackets everywhere with sunglasses regardless of the occasion.
this book has constant tangents on the most cringe things. I only got 6 hours into the book and from what I can tell I am around 20-30 minutes of actual story into the book because of the constant tangents and overexplaining things. everything the character does is overexplained. "he walked to the door. he would have run to the door but currently nothing was chasing him because how could they chase a badass killer like him. looking like a god among men with a jacket of hardened leather plates and his 10 foot pole of doom made to roast the enemy over fires of doom and denying all evil life on this planet while also being the seeker of trust in this world that God can sort them out in. the door that his sister had shown to him" then goes on another sub story on his sister. these tangents have NOTHING to do with the story and lend nothing to it. I am not exaggerating when I say I truly think I am around 20 minutes into the story due to the constant rambling and need to let you know how edgy the character is. I can only guess the author purchased good reviews for his book to get anything above 2 stars.

Historia
In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him. He took a nap, but he is awake once more.

Poor Story Direction
Revisado: 01-20-25
I really wanted to like these books because of how highly they were talked about on a reddit thread I came across. the narration is good in them. not amazing but not bad. the story is just boring though and just drags on and on going nowhere. the goofy puns are sometimes funny but mostly just annoying and pointless. it feels like the author is just writing the entire book for the puns and nothing else. if you enjoy it then that's awesome but for me I found it to be annoying, slow and very boring.

this is probably the second or third best litrpg out there. dark gritty. no comedy releife character. not too many stats and such. mysteries that may or may not be a explained. side stories that you may or may not get to hear. in short, it feels like a living breathing world. I really hope the author keeps writing because this series is amazing.

unsettling and creepy interactions
Revisado: 12-15-23
this story has very creepy and unsettling reactions to various situations. it has forced morals and reasoning. as another reviewer wrote, I think the author is including their culture into their writing.
this is not a spoiler as it's in I think chapter one but he goes on and on about how lame people are for calling themself a "gamer" and how the gaming company employees look in disgust at them as they try and apply for a game testing position at a game company. just writing that bit felt very stupid.
I have worked in the gaming industry for a while and I can't think of anyone who actually thinks this way. it's quite clear the author knows very little of what goes on in development and publishing companies and the least they could have done is interviewed some people so the reactions don't feel so forced.
there is one character in the story that is constantly fondly the MC and it feels beyond creepy. there is very little if any reason for her to act this way beyond forced romantic interest as when the MC first meets her she does not even notice him.
all in all this book is just bad. the story is ok and the world building is interesting but I can only see this getting worse.

please cut down on the tangents.
Revisado: 07-19-23
Fully 60-70% of this book is just the mc going off on tangents inside his mind or to other people. the one solid part in the book where someone calls out the mc in being an absolute idiot on getting others killed because of this is bulldozed and forgotten and played off as the other person just being mean to the mc.
while I wabted to give this a better review it just isn't good with the amount of pointless filler in the book.
