Do not get on audiobook
Revisado: 11-27-10
The point of this book is to have a number of prayers to actually pray using scripture. In audio format you do not have those written prayers to pray, just listen to. Listening in audio format defeats the entire purpose of the book. This should never have been made into an audiobook.

Barely understandable, strangely structured
Revisado: 11-16-10
I am just over a hour into the book. I have not figured out a structure to the book yet. There seem to be all kinds of random quotes from other books and I really have no idea how this is supposed to be structured. I have friends that have loved the print version, but stay away from the audio version. The accent of the narrator makes him very difficult to understand, but more important is the structure of the book. Based on some reviews from Amazon it is mostly segments from biographical writings and interviews but in audio format there is not enough structure to give definition to know what is going on

Historia
In his new book, economist Dean Baker debunks the myth that conservatives favor the market over government intervention. In fact, conservatives rely on a range of "nanny state" policies that ensure the rich get richer while leaving most Americans worse off. It's time for the rules to change. Sound economic policy should harness the market in ways that produce desirable social outcomes: decent wages, good jobs, and affordable health care.

Interesting alternatives, not politically viable
Revisado: 10-25-10
This book is trying to intentionally push ideas of what is possible. The point is not the political viabilies of different economic ideas, but reality that different ideas exist. Yes there would be some unintended consequences, but there are unintended consequences now. The author is intentionally trying to push conservatives buttons and there is fair amount of snark and humor (most of which is lost in the reading.)
I did like the way footnotes were handled.

Historia
It took answering God's call on his life, a call that hurtled him out of his presidential corner office at Lenox-America's finest tableware company-to this humble corner of Uganda. This is a story of how a corporate CEO faced his own struggle to obey God whatever the cost, and his passionate call for Christians to change the world by actively living out their faith.

A Memoiry look at global poverty
Revisado: 03-04-10
The authors uses his own biography to illustrate how he became away of global poverty and how we the church should address it. This is not a "social gospel" look at Christianity. This is a biblical view of what the church is called to do. Great book.

Historia
Religion has left an undeniable mark in our world. Some see it as the answer to every problem, while others see it as the problem itself. Simply put, religion is the single greatest force in history. But in a much more intimate sense, what does religion mean to one life? In this honest, suspenseful, and moving memoir, author David Nasser tells of a life filled with heartbreak and healing.

Great story telling
Revisado: 01-19-10
David and his family escaped from Iran during the 1979 revolution. David's father was a Colonel in the Iranian Air Force and was in danger of being killed under the new regime. They eventually made their way to the United States and David eventually became a Christian. This is the story of how that happened and how he has gone on to become a speaker and writer.
The book is fairly brief (the audio is unabridged and only 4 hours 21 minutes) or 171 pages in hardback. But like Just Courage by Gary Haugen, it is well worth the short read (or listen). This time it is more for the stories than the great insights. It is not that his insights are bad, but that his stories are really good.

Great Introduction to Prayer
Revisado: 09-16-07
This was a great introduction to prayer. I have been reading through a bunch of books on prayer for a personal research project and this was the best introduction to methods on prayer that I have found. It is full of actual experience in prayer and not just theory. It took me a little while to get through it because I would have to stop and think about what he was writing for a while and come back to it. Highly recommend

"Regime change" did not begin with the administration of George W. Bush, but has been an integral part of U.S. foreign policy for more than one hundred years. Starting with the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893 and continuing through the Spanish-American War and the Cold War and into our own time, the United States has not hesitated to overthrow governments that stood in the way of its political and economic goals.

Important info, a bit boring
Revisado: 03-19-07
The info is good. It seems well researched. It is boring and the narrator does not make it better. I have been working on this for four months and still am not finished.

Historia
God and sex go together. You can't separate the two, says Rob Bell, because this physical world is intimately linked to deeper spiritual realities. And so, in order to make sense of sexuality, at some point you have to talk about God. With beauty and unusual insight, Sex God explores this connection.

A Sex Book that is so much more than about Sex
Revisado: 03-19-07
This is the book on sex that I wish I had been given by my parents when we had "the talk". Not because it talks directly about sex that much, but because it talks about what sex really is. It is not so much the physical but the spiritual that is important. If you have ever wanted to really understand what the relationship between sex and marriage really it, this is the best book I have ever read about it.

Historia
We view the long, horrifying struggle from the vantage of the White House as Lincoln copes with incompetent generals, hostile congressmen, and his raucous cabinet. He overcomes these obstacles by winning the respect of his former competitors, and in the case of Seward, finds a loyal and crucial friend to see him through. This brilliant multiple biography is centered on Lincoln's mastery of men and how it shaped the most significant presidency in the nation's history.

Bad Cuts
Revisado: 09-27-06
I don't like abridged books and this one seems like it was a bad one. I haven't read the full book, but I have listened to unabridged books by the same author and they have been very good. This one seems to have the whole point of the book cut out. The book is supposed to have been about how Lincoln pulled together rivals but the abridgment just seems to try to get us through the civil war and not worry about the thesis of the book. I wanted a book about Lincoln's leadership, not the basics of civil war history. Very disappointing.

Bean's past was a battle just to survive. He first appeared on the streets of Rotterdam, a tiny child with a mind leagues beyond anyone else. He knew he could not survive through strength; he used his tactical genius to gain acceptance into a children's gang, and then to help make that gang a template for success for all the others. He civilized them, and lived to grow older. Then he was discovered by the recruiters for the Battle School.

The naration is great. But the story doesn't have the same quality as some earlier books. It got better as it went on though.
