Historia
Toby Gutteridge was only 24 when he was shot through the neck while operating behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. He survived despite not breathing for at least 20 minutes. Back in the UK, doctors recommended that his life support machine be switched off, but with the defiant spirit that would define his recovery, Toby pulled through. Now quadriplegic, capable of movement only with his head, Toby has rebuilt his life.

Life Changing
Revisado: 11-13-22
Toby's insightful thoughts and words regarding life's lessons have impacted me at a time when I was experiencing doubt and fears. I rewound many sections to ingrain in my mind the passion with which he was conveying intense meaning, which I internalized. While I know it was difficult for Toby to put himself out there and write this book, I am thankful the he fulfilled his purpose to help others as he has changed my life in ways that will resonate for a life time. Thank you Toby.

Spectacular Read
Revisado: 06-26-22
If you love history, especially the Gilded Age, this book will not disappoint. While Anderson narrates the book, you feel that you are transported back in time as he vividly describes the rise of the Vanderbilts and the various trials and traumas that they faced over the years along with the extravaganzes. Then Anderson takes you on a journey of more recent times including the later years of his mother and of himself.
When I selected this book, I thought that it was going to be a recant of similar information that has already been written but I found this to be so much more and I will listen to this book again. I was captivated with Anderson's narration of this book which keeps your attention throughout the book. Knowing that he is talking about his distant and not so distant relatives had me wondering how he felt learning of every detail about his family. And details you will learn as Anderson has done exhaustive research to bring us this book.
I highly recommend this book!

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 06-01-22
I learned many new historical facts about WWI and WW2 as the characters and story line were being developed. But what made the story come alive for me was the narration. Saskia does a marvelous job of bringing the characters to life. I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
In September 1998, Michael J. Fox stunned the world by announcing he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease: a degenerative neurological condition. In fact, he had been secretly fighting it for seven years. The worldwide response was staggering. Fortunately, he had accepted the diagnosis and by the time the public started grieving for him, he had stopped grieving for himself.

Thank you to Micheal J. Fox for being genuine.
Revisado: 01-18-21
I don't usually write reviews but I feel compelled to do so after listening to Lucky Man by Micheal J. Fox. My mom has been showing signs for years but recently was diagnosed of Parkinson's Disease. Therefore, my mom placed this book on her Christmas list. I had not heard about the author's books but decided to read/listen with my mom so we could talk about what we had read. I appreciated the author's true and very honest characterizations of his situations, his alcoholism, career anxieties and the diagnosis of P.D. Hearing the author narrate the book and use everyday language, made his situation very real to me and empathize with my mother. I am looking forward to starting the second book and continuing my quest to learn more about how P.D. effects those with the disease and how I can help. A huge thank you to Micheal for bringing P.D. awareness to my life.

Historia
In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

Enjoyed the underlying themes in the story.
Revisado: 03-22-15
I appreciated the non-traditonal theme for the main female character, the historial context, and the scientific view points. I found myself interested in the next turn to this audiobook and enjoyed continous listening. The narrator was not my favorite but was not awful either (probably a personal preference.) Overall, I am very glad that this book was recommended to me!
