Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Not a bad story, but this narrarator isn't it
Revisado: 08-14-24
I finally caved and listened to this hearing everyone go crazy about it and I have to say, it's ok. Not great, not bad, but ok. Overall, the story is interesting enough to keep you listening but the writing feels very young-adult- I groaned every time I heard the phrase "her/his brow furrowed". Even with the "spicy" scenes which aren't that spicy to be honest, it would be a good read for the folks who love fantasy and thought 50 Shades was super kinky. Otherwise, steel yourself for some of the longest, strangest descriptions of kissing sessions that, apparently, are orgasmic for the FL.
My biggest criticism is this narrator. The pacing, pronunciation, and voices she tries to do all fall so flat I almost gave up listening after 5 chapters but was invested enough in the story I pushed on. She manages to make me dislike the main female lead associating her with it, which sounds horrible but I don't know how else to describe it. Unfortunately, she is also the narrator for book 2, which I am struggling through now. I recommend listening at 1.2x speed to help with the weird pacing and breaths/pauses. Teddy's part at the end threw me off but wasn't too bad, albeit recorded a bit quietly.

Karen goes straight for your feelings
Revisado: 12-13-16
I am a huge fan of Karen Miller, so when I saw this book I immediately used a credit. The narrator grows on you after a chapter or two, and my only complaint with him would be that some of the characters sound so much alike that it was almost comical when they were conversing with one another. Like all of her books, be prepared to have all of your emotions trampled on. her tendency to put her heroes through absolute hell almost drives you crazy, but hungry for more. I cannot wait for book 2 so I can devour it as well
