Historia
Cranford, Elizabeth Gaskell's best-known work, is a humorous account of a nineteenth-century English village dominated by a group of genteel but modestly circumstanced women. This is a community that runs on cooperation and gossip, at the very heart of which are the daughters of the former rector: Miss Deborah Jenkyns and her sister, Miss Matty.

A Classic but…
Revisado: 10-12-22
I enjoyed other Elizabeth Gaskell novels Wives and Daughters, North and South and Ruth. But this is not my cup of tea, I appreciate a novel without the marriage plot but it makes me sad that for so many single women their lives were so limited. I am encouraged that society has broadened the opportunities for women and it was worth the read as a Gaskell fan.

Great read

This was a very well developed world and a great story. But the end (last 3 chapters ) felt rushed. I liked the story and the performance was amazing.

Great story... bad voice
Revisado: 10-26-17
I enjoy this series in part because mermaid characters that don’t desire to be human are rare and because of the multiracial characters. Unfortunately the voice of this book comes off as racist rather than anything. Listening to the voice butcher accents was painful. I had hoped that after the first book the voice would change since the main character changed. But instead the same voice is steadfastly horrible. Please please do this book the favor of finding a new voice and giving us listeners a well needed change.

A sequel that doesn’t disappoint
Revisado: 10-26-17
I picked up Six of Crows without knowing much about the series or the universe. It took a moment for me to get interested in the book and I almost put it down. I am so glad I did not! I thought I would be annoyed by the change in view points and voices. I was not! I loved each of the characters. The transitions were smooth. Once the story began to unfold ( which as I said took a moment) I didn’t want to stop listening. I was desperate to find out Kaz secret, Inej past, Waylan’s torment, Matthias pride, Nina’s shame, and Jesper’s obession. Every time I thought the end was near for these anti-hero’s I was surprised. Though not everyone got thier happy ending (which seemed a bit forced when it came down to dishing out endings for these characters) overall I was happy with the conclusion

First published in 1885, with billboards and posters around London announcing "The Most Amazing Book Ever Written". It became an immediate best seller. The genesis of the Lost World literary genre! The search of an unexplored region of Africa by a group of adventurers, led by Allan Quatermain, for a missing brother, lost while searching for the mythical mines of King Solomon. It is the first English adventure novel set in Africa. The novel has been adapted to film at least six times.

Classic Adventure Story
Revisado: 10-26-17
I usually seek out Mr. Munro when there is a classic to be read. He usually does not disappoint. His voice seems suited for 18th century literature. I know that classic adventure stories can pale in comparison with plot lines and ease of today’s authors. But taking the book as it is for it’s time I enjoyed it very much.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Like poetry
Revisado: 10-26-17
I knew I had to read this book as a black woman and a scholar. I wasn’t sure if it would be a painful read like some classics can be. But this book was such an easy read and the performance was excellent. I could feel the rage, the indignation, the confusion that the character felt through his journey. The performance was passionate and moving. Well done! I enjoyed this character’s story, even as I was angered by it. Most of all the book made me feel.

Rich story and rich characters
Revisado: 10-26-17
This story has a very Eastern European feel. The witch reminds me of a kinder Baba Yaga. I loved the story and the way everything intersected in the end. It was a beautiful story. The voice was very rich and able to give voice to all characters which kept you engaged in the story.

Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend.

Excellent story
Revisado: 10-26-17
This was an excellent idea and a well crafted story. I enjoyed the twists and turns and walking with the character to figure out the game. I did get a bit annoyed at the characters insisting on finding her sister. It seemed that she missed out on the game. All in all it was a wonderful story and keeps you entertained and engaged until the very very end. Well done.

Enjoyed the story not the voice
Revisado: 09-20-16
Perhaps it was expecting too much to request someone who either has or can perfect the correct accents for multiracial characters. This story is a joy to read but not to listen to which is unfortunate since that is the purpose of audible. In any case I thought it was a good story with a message about learning to take responsibility even when others who “know” you best try to limit your potential. I’d be glad to let me teens listen well maybe just read.

Historia
For Jane Re, half-Korean, half-American orphan, Flushing, Queens, is the place she’s been trying to escape from her whole life. Sardonic yet vulnerable, Jane toils, unappreciated, in her strict uncle’s grocery store and politely observes the traditional principle of nunchi (a combination of good manners, hierarchy, and obligation). Desperate for a new life, she’s thrilled to become the au pair for the Mazer-Farleys, two Brooklyn English professors and their adopted Chinese daughter.

Total Misunderstanding of the nature of Jane Eyre
Revisado: 04-13-16
it seems to me that the author completely misunderstand the Bronte Jane Eyre, instead of finding a modern Jane, the author sites a sempering and mini-mouthed shell. Jane is so desperate for affection she falls for her married employer who offers her nothing but McDonald's and food he hides from his wife. As from tier first sexual encounter of is clear of the authors bias against the Jane and Edward romance. Jane is led like a dog the whole book and the author spends more time fleshing out side characters that we leave the book worth no sense of completion. I have no aversion to a changed ending of it could leave me complete but this book falls woefully short.
