Historia
It is 1873. Mrs. Eliza Touchet is the Scottish housekeeper—and cousin by marriage—of a once-famous novelist, now in decline, William Ainsworth, with whom she has lived for thirty years. Mrs. Touchet is a woman of many interests: literature, justice, abolitionism, class, her cousin, his wives, this life and the next. But she is also sceptical. She suspects her cousin of having no talent; his successful friend, Mr. Charles Dickens, of being a bully and a moralist; and England of being a land of facades, in which nothing is quite what it seems.

Could not finish the audiobook version
Revisado: 02-19-25
A very slow novel with very little by way of plot development for an awfully long time. I managed to get through 24 chapters before giving up. Unfortunately, the author is not a good narrator, and I found her very bad Scottish accents and general delivery very distracting.

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

The book that hooked me on Irving
Revisado: 01-17-25
Really enjoyed going back to this book almost 30 years after I first read it. Irving‘s mastery of the slow build up of a story and a character pay off so powerfully in this story with a huge emotional ending.

Sadly, you are left wondering how he lived as long as he did…
Revisado: 03-16-24
I read this book before Matt Perry died, and it really is a sad and gripping tale. What is notable is that the highlight of his life as a member of the cast of friends almost seems to have passed him by. He spends very little time in the book Describing that time as joyful. What a sad loss. Definitely recommend the book although it does get a little bit repetitive at times.

Historia
Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

A book for of Jerry Seinfeld’s material, good and bad
Revisado: 03-16-24
If you are a huge Jerry Seinfeld fan, then you will probably love this book however, there is not much more to it than Geri reading through years and years of material, some of it mildly amusing some of it not so much. Probably better to watch episodes of Seinfeld, or see him liveon the stage.

Pretty good version of the “life sucks when you are poor “trope
Revisado: 03-16-24
If you liked Educated by Tara Westover, then you were very likely enjoy demon copperhead. This is another engaging story of poverty and inequity in small town America. The main character, Demon, gets under your skin in a good way. Very enjoyable.

To be a journalist is to tell the truth. I Love Russia is Elena Kostyuchenko’s unrelenting attempt to document her country as experienced by those whom it systematically and brutally erases: village girls recruited into sex work, queer people in the outer provinces, patients and doctors at a Ukrainian maternity ward, and reporters like herself.

Mostly Aimless. Russian life is hard. Okay.
Revisado: 03-16-24
What a frustrating read. Initially, the book is confusing for its lack of storyline, then you realize there is no storyline, just a collection of disconnected mini stories about Russian life. It doesn’t add up to much.

As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

A Pretty good book, shame its legacy is such a bad film trilogy.
Revisado: 01-04-24
I do really like this book and I don’t know why it gets so much hate. However this trilogy of novels is tainted by the absolutely atrocious movies that it serves as a prequel to. I like the characters, especially Sinjir and Mr Bones. I wish that it got the love it deserves, but I can see why people don’t want to give it any attention.

This is one of my favorite books of all time, I love its take on the dinosaurs. However I feel that the Dinosaurs have been on the Plato for so long that they should have evolved. Simpler to the 2005 King Kong. I also am not sure about describing the Allosaurus as “horrible toads” other than that it’s perfect
