Historia
Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

I am awarding "Hooked by Fly Fishing" FIVE STARS for what it is and what it is not. In this day/age of wars, pandemic, political dissension, social anger, misinformation and hate, this book soothed my psyche and calmed my blood pressure! This book, not one I'd select based on the title, was highly recommended to me. Once I started listening to Graham Mott narrate his fly-fishing adventures in his unpretentious, gravelly voice, I realized that I was transported to a real world of real events and real/genuine people who were true to the sport of fly fishing but do not turn it into a life or death, win or lose, right or wrong competitive battle. They educate themselves on the many varieties of fish, seek out the fish in stream pools, perfect their casting technique and totally lose themselves in the process. By releasing their catch, they aid in caring for the sport and earth. Each story was a tribute to the sport and men/women who are devoted to it. There is much to learn here. I suggest reading/listening to this book in your favorite chair, covered in your favorite Afghan, your Labrador Retriever by your side (or cat on your lap), a gentle fire in the fireplace and a hot cup of cocoa, coffee or tea to sip and allow the good and gentle feelings of life and sport to surround and calm you, just for a short time...until that other real world rushes back in.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

LOVED this BOOK!
Revisado: 01-30-23
As a life-long resident of Colorado, living high in the majestic mountains along the Arkansas River, every chapter told of familiar names, places, stories and history known to and surrounding me. It was like visiting a time dear to my heart, viewing a land I know and love and discovering important details of historical figures whose names have been given to numerous mountains, passes, valleys, trails and rivers I hike or traverse often. I now know so much more about the historical Western US. As I travel this country and stand atop these mountains, I will remember these details with appreciation and awe that I can walk where these giants of Western history once tread. Richard Davidson was the perfect narrator for this book; made me feel a part of this story of the West I so love. Thank you, Robert Utley and Richard Davidson for the gift of history about a place I call home!

Extraordinary
Revisado: 10-27-22
Of all the Victorian Novels I have listened to, this is my absolute favorite. As daunting as a 28-hour novel was to undertake, I was always enthralled to take up where I left off and be swept away with the gifted narration of Nicholas Boulton/cast. This narration was
a "performance" which brought life to all characters and intrigue to the story At times I was holding my breath in anticipation, at times laughing aloud but always thankful I had selected this novel to enrich my life. Of Collins' three best novels , Moonstone, The Lady in White and No Name, I vote No Name #1. I will continue to read Willie Collins novels for masterful literary enrichment and personal enjoyment.

Considered the first full-length detective novel in the English language, T.S. Eliot described The Moonstone as 'the first and greatest English detective novel'. The stone of the title is an enormous yellow diamond plundered from an Indian shrine after the Siege of Seringapatam. Given to Miss Verinder on her 18th birthday, it mysteriously disappears that very night. Suspicion falls on three Indian jugglers who have been seen in the neighbourhood. Sergeant Cuff is assigned to the case....

Historia
In 2009 Clinton Romesha of Red Platoon and the rest of the Black Knight Troop were preparing to shut down Command Outpost Keating, the most remote and inaccessible in a string of bases built by the US military in Nuristan and Kunar in the hope of preventing Taliban insurgents from moving freely back and forth between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Three years after Keating's construction, the army was finally ready to concede what the men on the ground had known immediately: It was simply too isolated and too dangerous to defend.

A Woeful Awakening
Revisado: 05-20-21
As a 6-year Caregiver to my severely diabetic husband, I was astounded at the similarities of emotions and anxieties shared with the author. Her words were my life and validated the emotions I have been struggling with for years. Now I recognize my trauma as real and am no longer guilty about my reactions. Lots of valuable statistics which enlightened my perspective. I keep hoping healing will happen and we can return to our normal life but now I know we are changed forever.
