this review is for the whole series. the world building and magic system is awesome. cool characters. The author clearly wrote the world and then put the characters in it. the anthology book is proof of that. probably read "the gorgon incident and other stories" last by the way.

Terry Pratchett's Ravnica

Feels like the author built an awesome world with a great magic system and economy, then the main characters came to life inside of it, rather than writing the characters then creating the world around them. There is a well thought out economy for prayers and magic. The author must have binders and binders of silmarillion-esqu notes on the history of the moon.

Not convinced the author has met any rich people or women.

all the women are either a damsel-in-distress or mean, often both. all the royalty are bat-shite insane and unbelievable. but dont worry, MC is here to save the day, it just so happens that the best way to solve any given probablem is kill someone and dispose of the body, what a coincidence! MC is never punished for killing so many people, and is usually rewarded by their families.

Voice acting is top notch though.

i get the clear impression that the author had all the answers and pretty thought out plan before he even started book 1. just gave us a slow trickle of information. This series is incredible.

unique premise, bland exicution

1/4 of the book is the MC magnanimously telling young women not to talk to him so formally. There are some good "modern science in an issekai world" parts, but its all powered by happy coincidences. Everybody MC knows is either a "hidden master" or happens to hold some other secret that happens to perfectly fix whatever chemistry problem MC has.

wasn't sure how much i like the book for the first bit, as it was sorta slow, but that was used to setup a solid foundation for the rest of the book!
highly recommend!

awesome world and engaging story!

awesome story, the last half of the book is super hype nonstop action. supporting characters are all super interesting.

my only complaint is the MC feels a bit inconsistent. every conversation he has he ends up with a new enemy, which seems strange seeing how he knows the value of allies. like his father sucks, but i dont see why he had to piss him off and walk away at the beginning of the book.

I went into this book not really knowing what to expect. If you are a man wondering if you should read this, I recommend it. The author hates the patriarchy, not you (potential male reader)specifically.

The author shares many alien and many familiar gripes and joys of the dating world. While i didn't feel the same way she did on some topics, those were the interesting ones to hear about. I got almost none of the early 2000s rom com references though.

I consider it a well used 6 hours.
