Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

So much history
Revisado: 02-21-24
With the depression and the hardships these young men faced, their triumph is all the sweeter. Plus the added information on Hitler’s Olympic preparation was a calculated deception.

Heart wrenching
Revisado: 12-01-23
I saw the author on GMA last week. The subject interested me. The book was all and more than I could have been imagined. It kept me engaged and excited. MMIW is finally being brought to the attention of the public. The narration was done to perfection. Thanks to Vanessa Lillie for writing this story.

Historia
Homicide is always an abomination, but there is something exceptionally disturbing about the victim discovered in a high, lonely place: a corpse with a mouth full of sand, abandoned at a crime scene seemingly devoid of tracks or useful clues. Though it goes against his better judgment, Navajo tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn cannot help but suspect the hand of a supernatural killer.

Soft introduction to Joe Leaphorn. Interesting, full of suspense and Navaho legends. George Guidall is perfect as the reader/narrator.

What a thrilling adventure
Revisado: 08-17-23
The movie is not the book. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, But the book is a different animal. W I worked wildland fire dispatch for many years, and I loved this book. The description of the fire behavior was amazing. Fire is a living, breathing, eating animal. To have it play such an integral part within the pages of this story was perfect. The fire is secondary to the characters. Thrilling, written with great imagination. I couldn’t put it down.

As Fin reconnects with the people and places of his tortured childhood, the beautiful island and its ancient customs once again begin to assert their grip on his psyche. Loved the twists and turns
Revisado: 05-16-23
The only reason I gave the performance 4 stars was pronunciation. The narrator should check with the locals to get the area names correct pronunciation. Willamette and Multnomah in particular.

Descriptive and believable
Revisado: 08-30-22
I enjoy Stephen King when he writes about things that are not out of the realm of reality. This book is believable. It has so many recognizable landscapes, music, and earlier King novels. My favorite was his mention of the band The Amazing Rhythm Aces, one of my favorites. Enjoy and take a journey with a gun for hire.
