I skipped over a lot to get to the end, which wasn’t an ending. Very disappointing all the way

Not for me. Yuck to the nth degree. Yuck .yuck yuck yuck yuck yuck . can’t say it enough to get out of this review window. Yuck beyond the 15 word minimum and can’t escape this review window. Like poor Liam in the book.

I googled the narrator and can't understand how he has won awards. The narrator has only two voices--his regular voice and the creepy, breathy one for every quote by a character in the story. The narration made it really difficult to listen.

The description for this book, along with listener reviews, were very misleading. I was so disappointed! There was nothing riveting, there were no twists or turns that were even slightly surprising. I lost interest about mid way through the book and listened to the last 2 chapters--actually only made it partway through the second to last chapter and decided I couldn't stand another word even though the narration was terrific

Would you listen to Doc: The Rape of the Town of Lovell again? Why?

This is such a disturbing story of how an arrogant doctor could prey on the innocence of so many women even when confronted with the facts. Jack Olson really delves into the characters, and we discover the innocence of the LDS women who are somewhat ripe for the scheming of such a devious character.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I listened to Kevin Pierce narrate "Son", another Jack Olson story of a disturbed and criminal man who preyed on women. He does a nice jib of telling the story without adding drama where there doesn't need to be any, and making the facts sound more factual than sensational.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The most extreme reactions I had was anger and contempt. How could this educated, religiously moral man be so contemptuous of a group of females as to rape them without conscious? He was the father of daughters. He put himself and his family on a pedestal, and he never tried to apologize to the many women he had wronged because he seemed to think they deserved it, after all, he was a good man, a church leader, a valued member of the community.. His wife and daughters could never accept that this rapist was the same man they knew, and he was able to hide it so that some of the women he showed such contempt for actually defended him before the truth all came out. . He was totally in denial through it all, never admitting his role as a rapist. I felt terrible for the women in his life that couldn't accept the facts.

What disappointed you about Beyond Belief?

I am not sure how Jenna defines a secret life. I didn't see any secrets, just lots of descriptions about what her daily life was like at various times. Although her life was very unusual and she didn't have a typical childhood, I was sorry that this was her life. The book did give another viewpoint to what's wrong with Scientology-- child labor, family separation, etc.

What could Jenna Miscavige Hill have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book was very interesting, her ordeal as a scientologist and her family relationships was all very interesting. The way Scientology dealt with the nuclear family, the fact that it was acceptable to the family as well was very bizarre. I still struggle with understanding the attraction some people find to Scientology.

What about Sandy Rustin’s performance did you like?

I mostly agreed with her interpretation of the feelings behind events, but not completely. Some of it was the way the book was written.

Any additional comments?

The Harrowing Escape. Was this really the third to the last chapter? And yet it didn't live up to being "harrowing", and was covered in one chapter? Back to the sub title being very misleading

What disappointed you about Where'd You Go, Bernadette?

I cannot think of one single thing I enjoyed about this book. Oh, I quit reading it--that freed me of pain, agony, irritation. This book offered nothing of real interest. It's all fluff even though it seems it was supposed to be humorous and entertaining. Sorry, I just couldn't stand the shouting of the narrator, the dribble of the characters, the supposed humor that fell flat, etc.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I plan to listen to the next Cork O'Conner by William Kent Krueger. There's a cast of characters I enjoy!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kathleen Wilhoite?

I thought I would enjoy this particular book as a narrated book but i don't think I could have enjoyed this is any format. I hated all the shouting voices, the dull voice of the psychiatrist, and all of the memos or whatever.
