Historia
No company embodied American ingenuity, innovation, and industrial power more spectacularly and more consistently than the General Electric Company. GE once developed and manufactured many of the inventions we take for granted today, nearly everything from the lightbulb to the jet engine. GE also built a cult of financial and leadership success envied across the globe and became the world’s most valuable and most admired company. But even at the height of its prestige and influence, cracks were forming in its formidable foundation.

Sad Story—Outcome Not Inevitable
Revisado: 12-12-22
One word: hubris!
So many people impacted by the whims of a solitary egomaniac. Jeff Immelt’s mistakes and blunders are fairly chronicled here. From my perspective he deserves the castigation.
I think about what could have been, and though Jack Welch was no saint, he had reliable systems and personnel who knew right from wrong. I do not think if Jack had been appointed at same time Jeff the outcome would have been the same. Jack had his flaws, but hubris was not amongst them.

Surprised and Delighted!
Revisado: 08-06-22
Let me say first I love this ensemble cast of narrators! Also, I am surprised by this great story and easy read.
I have given up on new author fiction, because maybe I have just become a snob. This new author deserves the hype and I wish her a long and dynamic career.
Great story, easy read, sympathetic characters, and believable scenario.
Looking forward to next book!

Historia
American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty while abroad, the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We're becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history.

Well Timed and Authoritative:
Revisado: 04-24-18
The conclusions of this well written and meticulously researched book are hard to dismiss as “fake news.”
Farrow writes to all audiences, and the interviews offer something new about each party.
America has always been served by many tools in the “toolbox” with diplomacy ranking among the most effective. Farrow provides convincing evidence of why losing this capability only serves our enemies.

A Troubling Narrative:
Revisado: 04-17-18
Regardless what you think about this man, James Comey, he tends towards credibility. This story, much like his other actions, have a polarizing effect.
To be a responsible citizen in these divisive times one must read and review all the information possible. This narrative is just one more piece in the sad state of our political process.
This will leave you unfulfilled, and minus the personal jabs I do think another piece of the puzzle is to be found here.

Historia
For over 20 years, a select group of Yale undergraduates has been admitted into the year-long "Grand Strategy" seminar team-taught by John Lewis Gaddis and Paul Kennedy. Its purpose: to provide a grounding in strategic decision-making in the face of crisis to prepare future American leaders for important work. Now, John Lewis Gaddis has transposed the experience of that course into a wonderfully succinct, lucid and inspirational book, a view from the commanding heights of statesmanship across the landscape of world history from the ancient Greeks to Lincoln, and beyond.

Using examples from across history, Gaddis eloquently outlines key insights into effective strategic planning.
The text and style are engrossing and will be well received by all, whether you are managing a global enterprise or a homemaker.
I will listen to this book many more times. Gaddis prepared a world class consolidation of humanities attempts to effectively plan for specific outcomes.

Historia
The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.

Urgent Reading for All Wishing to Maintain Democratic Values
Revisado: 12-31-17
This brief, impactful, treatise details the slippery slope America resides through the mirror of historical comparison.
This is not hysterical “Trump-bashing,” rather a reasoned analysis of how history is not inevitable. There are no longer any adults in the room. We must, each of us, stand up for what we hold dear—freedom and democratic ideals.
The history is clear, and the machinations evident. Snyder offers a compelling analysis of the facts.

Historia
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Another Excellent Simple Prescient Story from the Master:
Revisado: 10-24-17
The Rooster Bar is a well timed commentary on the current state of crushing student debt and the fraud perpetrated in pursuit of riches by criminal conspiracies.
Grisham effortlessly tackles current events in a simple and straightforward and entertaining way. This book will have real meaning to law students and lawyers alike. However, the general public will feel the anxiety and friction just the same.
Grisham is a master entertainer, and he does not disappoint—new subject matter sometimes turns people off as this is a departure. But, I still loved it!

New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. Portrayed as Insider, But Not Convincing:
Revisado: 07-19-17
Certainly the parties are controversial and fairly toxic depending on your politics. I thought there would be keen insights gained by this book, but much like the subjects truth seems secondary.
I think this is not written in the moment, rather this is written from the rear-view and it suffers for it.
I will credit this book for giving a balanced look at this tumultuous duo and their place in history, even if written from the perspective of hindsight.
Overall: meh.
