Historia
Destined to Die Young is the definitive examination of why the world lost Elvis Presley on August 16, 1977, when he was only 42 years old. Author Sally Hoedel has painstakingly researched the subject and offers factual and scientific data—plus never-before-published information she gained by interviewing people who personally knew Elvis—to support her claim that Elvis Presley was never going to live a long life.

I enjoyed the story
Revisado: 03-13-25
Terrible narration, sounds very amateurish as she frequently gets tongue tied, and the sound will fade in and out, plus she speaks too fast. Sounds like she just read it into one of those hand held recorders.

Historia
A Delayed Life is the breathtaking memoir that tells the story of Dita Kraus, the real-life Librarian of Auschwitz. Dita Kraus grew up in Prague in an intellectual, middle-class Jewish family. She went to school, played with her friends, and never thought of herself as being different - until the advent of the Holocaust. Torn from her home, Dita was sent to Auschwitz with her family. From her time in the children’s block of Auschwitz to her liberation from the camps and on into her adulthood, Dita’s powerful memoir sheds light on an incredible life - one that is delayed no longer.

Annoying narrator
Revisado: 02-13-25
I really enjoyed the story, and it’s important that we listen to the testimonies of those who suffered during the holocaust. However I didn’t enjoy the narration. The lady has a very smug tone to her voice, and the way she reads the story, it almost gives the impression that Dita Kraus found the whole ordeal simply tiresome; instead of the horror that it actually was.

Historia
When Leosz was only six, his life changed completely. World War II broke out in 1939, sweeping the young boy into the whirlwind of the holocaust. For six long torturous years, Leosz sees and goes through everything: myriads of overcrowded transports headed for concentration camps, life on the streets of occupied Poland as an abandoned child, hiding from cruel Nazis, forced labor under conditions of starvation, and the constant threat of death.

Awful Narration
Revisado: 02-06-25
Couldn’t even make it to the end because of the narration. He has a weird monotone voice and takes weird breaks in the middle of sentences. There’s also loads of mispronunciation, and some words are just plain wrong, like he can’t read properly. It’s a shame because it ruins what is probably an important story.

Dark skies and barbed wire fences were all Bluma Plaskovsky saw as she stepped down from the train onto the main platform of Auschwitz-Birkenau. After surviving the Wehrmacht’s decimation of her hometown, Bluma and what remained of her family were finally put on the long, harsh train ride through inhuman conditions that seemed to last an eternity.

Terrible narration
Revisado: 01-20-25
Is this narrated by AI because the words come out slow and robotic. I had to play it at a faster speed and even then I couldn’t finish it. It’s a pity because these are important stories and should be heard.

Historia
On a sunny morning in May 1939, a phalanx of 867 women - housewives, doctors, opera singers, politicians, prostitutes - was marched through the woods 50 miles north of Berlin, driven on past a shining lake, then herded in through giant gates. Whipping and kicking them were scores of German women guards. Their destination was Ravensbrück, a concentration camp designed specifically for women by Heinrich Himmler, prime architect of the Holocaust.

It’s a hard listen, but these stories are too important not to be heard.
Revisado: 06-28-24
This is a no holds barred account of life in the Ravensbruck concentration camp. A lot of it is so hard to listen to, especially the chapter about the babies; I was so sad and cried while I was listening to it. There’s so much detail; a lot of which is stomach churning; but these women were so strong and smart and I have nothing but love and admiration for every single one of them. This book is so important and everyone needs to listen to it and hear these women’s stories.
