It’s not easy to write a book covering over ten years of rapidly changing, ever growing success while maintaining the humanity of the subjects. I have been a fan of the author’s interviews and articles in Weverse Magazine for quite a while now. I’m so pleased he was chosen to write this book. It was obvious the guys were comfortable being candid and truthful with him. If I had any critique, I would say that I would have liked to have heard more about the members mixtapes and solo projects - but then this book would have ended up twice as long, so I get it. Great job overall.

Not gonna lie, there are very few series that I stick with for eleven books, but PsyCop keeps getting better and better! I love Vic and Jacob working together as a team. Their talents compliment each other so well. And those nasty little Habit Demons! I can’t bite my nails without thinking they might be attached to me. :) But my favorite part of Bitter Pill has to be Jackie’s story. It was only a subplot, but it was told with so much heart. I love that this side character finally got a chance to shine.

I am so in love with this series! Usually by book nine of any series, I am ready to tap out, but PsyCop keeps getting better and better. Not only am I still 100% in, I'm more in love with these characters than ever. I listened to the audio, and I swear Gomez Pugh is the medium and he channels the real Victor Bayne from another dimension. His dry delivery of JCP's humor is brilliant! I loved seeing more of Dead Darla. I hope we will continue to see her from time to time in future books.

Seriously, can you get a better combination than JCP and Joel Leslie? Both were phenomenal in this book. JCP's writing is alway spot on, and her characterization is detailed and real. Keep listening to the new novella at the end, because it is super emotional and will give you all the feelz.

Joel voiced the characters perfectly. His interactions between Mark and Murray were hilarious. It almost sounded like two different voice actors. So good. I also appreciated his subtle handling of Jonathan's accent. It could have come across very Bela Lugosi, making it campy, but he didn't. It was just right.

Where does Black Balled rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I rated this a 4 star, but it is a solid 4 star. Good story, interesting characters, humorous, excellent narrator. My only issue is that at times the MC's, especially Babu, were hard to like. I have met sanctimonious reviewers like him before, and it was a little hard for me to warm to him. That said, I came to enjoy the back and forth banter between the two men, and the ending was satisfying.

What about Joel Leslie’s performance did you like?

I love Joel Leslie. He is an incredible actor with a versatile voice. You know a narrator is good when you forget you are listening to a reading and you become absorbed in the characters. I have listened to several of his books now, and I am consistently happy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jonas felt the most real to me. I worried that his character would be a "damsel in distress", while the big men protected him, but fortunately, that didn't happen. He had his own agency, and that was nice.

What does Joel Leslie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love listening to Joel Leslie. He does a good job with character differentiation, and he is easy to listen to. He doesn't do any weird pronunciations, so it is easy to most past listening to immerse yourself in the story.

Any additional comments?

It was good. I will probably check out the next book.

Where does PsyCop Briefs, Volume 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The PsyCop series in audio is the most consistently enjoyable series I have listened to. The combination of JCP's characters and storytelling mixed with Gomez Pugh's voice always hits the spot.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the small, stolen moments between Vic & Jacob.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The humor in the PsyCop books always makes me laugh out loud. It balances out the darkness of the stories beautifully.

What made the experience of listening to The Persistence of Memory the most enjoyable?

I loved this book when I read it previously. Listening to it in audio reminded me of what a brilliant story this is.

What did you like best about this story?

JCP can do no wrong. I'll follow her down any rabbit hole she leads me. Truly one of the best storytellers writing today.

What about Seth Clayton’s performance did you like?

Seth Clayton was the perfect narrator for this book. His Aunt Pipsy and Larry were a delight. I like that he treated Elijah's voice so well. It will be interesting to see what he does with Elijah in the second book.

I tend to avoid sex worker stories because so many of them involve people who turn to the work out of desperation, and not 100% freewill. That feels icky to me. I was happy to find this is not the case with Ty. He comes off as a guy who likes sex and is perfectly happy to turn it into a business. In fact, I had to chuckle a bit at him updating his advertising.

Andy is a shy guy who hires Ty so he can learn what to do before he asks his crush out. Ty takes things slow, and as a result, he finds himself thinking of Andy as a friend. And eventually more than a friend. It actually was a very sweet story. For such a short book, there was a lovely slow-built to the romance.

The narration was good, but then Sean Crisden always is.

Lily G. Blunt is a new author to me, but based on what I've read here, I will definitely check out some of her full-length novels.

** I received this audio book free in exchange for an honest review.

The M/M world needs more books like this.

I love a good plot. And I love M/M books. But I’ve been in a slump lately because it feels like I’ve been reading the same three plot lines over and over again. I needed something different, and Tere Michaels did it.

Set in a dystopian, near-future New York, WHO KNOWS THE STORM is the story of those trying to make a life for themselves in the city ruins after an epic storm. As someone who has economics and history, I found the story incredibly believable. Most of the population has left. For those who have stayed, mafia and drug dealers now rule. Corruption is wide-spread and deep. Think New Orleans if the world hadn’t flooded money into rebuilding and the looters were put in charge. Think Detroit.

And it is this believably that makes the story feel real. That and the characters. Michaels does a wonderful job with fleshing out her characters into three dimensional people. Nox (the Vigilante) is trying to raise his adopted son, Sam, in this poverty stricken and corrupt world. Worker by day and neighborhood patrol by night. Makes him sound like some sort of super hero, but no, it never comes to that. He has a do-gooder streak in him that is both endearing and stifling for his kid, but really he is just a man who is trying to keep his home safe.

Cade has a position of privilege in the city. As a high-end prostitute at one of the big casinos, he’s a local celebrity. When he agrees to deliver a letter to Sam for one of his clients, he crosses paths with Nox. I’m picky when it comes to characters in the sex industry. I like to read them when the characters are consenting adults in control of their bodies. I don’t like stories where they are forced to be with despicable people or are abused. Even worse, I hate to read about characters who have to sell their bodies because they have no other choice. In Cade’s case, he is there because he wants to be. He is young and gorgeous and, thanks to his job, he’s rich. I’m cool with that.

Nox’s relationship with Cade is not a schmoopy romance, and thank god for that! Their romance is almost as gritty as the story, and it fits beautifully. The sex is hot, but not the main focus of the story. The author doesn’t try to artificially amp up the drama. It all feels natural, a subplot to the dramatic story. Readers of Tere Michael’s other books may be caught a little off guard by how different this book is, but I strongly recommend giving it a try.

I listened to this book in audio, and the narration was perfect. Jonathan Young’s voice gave the story a dark, natural feel. I see he has done several other M/M audio books, and I’d happily listen to him again.

Overall, I give this book….
Plot – 4 ½ bookmarks
Characterization – 5 bookmarks
World Building – 5 bookmarks
Narration – 5 bookmarks
Romance – 5 bookmarks (but keep in mind that it is a subplot)
Dream Cast (otherwise known as who I pictured while reading) – Scott Adkins (Nox), Sam Claflin (Cade), Tyler Posey (Sam), Zoey Deutch (Rachel)
