Historia
Equipped with the entirety of human knowledge, a sentient ship is launched on a last-ditch journey to find a new home for civilization. Trillions of miles. Tens of thousands of years. In the space between, the AI has plenty of time to think about life, the vastness of the universe, everything it was meant to do, and—with a perspective created but not limited by humans—what it should do.

Very distracting narrator
Revisado: 10-28-24
I can't make up my mind about the story because the narrator is so weird. It almost sounds like an Australian trying to do a British accent while trying to sound "all knowing". I don't wanna be mean, but it ruined it for me.

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer. Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom. And Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people.

Boring and formulaic
Revisado: 06-09-24
I don't want to be ugly about it, but this book was really boring. Its as if you told a robot to make a fantasy novel. The story just never gets anywhere. It may actually be partially the narrators fault. He was killing me. This is one of the worst narrators in the world. I've really got to remember his name so I can avoid him ruining any other books for me.

Could have been good
Revisado: 09-24-23
I wanted this book to be good, but the characters just didn't behave in a believable way. There was only a fleeting sense of urgency overall about their kidnapped child. There were a few other things that took me out of the story like sex scenes that were just sort of worked in for what seemed to be no good reason. Like they were injected into the story later just to have them there, this book needed a better editor. The reader, Saul Reichlin, was quite good as he always is. Ive got 7 hours left on this book and I just dont want to.

Historia
Wally Roux is a teenage genius with a big imagination and a big heart, who just moved to Savannah, GA, from Maine with his mom, who adopted him when he was an infant. In this charming and sweet solo performance, Wally investigates what is causing a number of strange events and occurrences. He explores and gets lost within space-time - an infinite, indefinable, and mysterious void that you can’t see but when you slice into it you can feel it.

Historia
John Hodgman - New York Times best-selling author, semifamous personality, deranged millionaire, increasingly elderly husband, father, and human of Earth - has written a memoir about his cursed travels through two wildernesses: from the woods of his home in Massachusetts, birthplace of rage, to his exile on the coast of Maine, so-called Vacationland, home to the most painful beaches on Earth.

pretty good as usual
Revisado: 07-03-19
I really love John Hodgman. he can do almost no wrong. I must admit to being disappointed that he took chapters 40 and 41 to bemoan his whiteness and the whiteness of white people. Very tedius and boring. The rest of the book was plain old regular Hodgman excellence!

Historia
Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

Revisado: 06-29-19
so, I think the whole world knows what to expect from this book. it's really great and the characters are memorable and likeable. I really enjoyed it a lot. But the performance by Lenny Henry is unbelievable. I just can't believe it was read by one person. each characters voice was distinct and believable. Accents were perfect and not even vaguely annoying but, when he was just reading the regular narration he would somehow just disappear. I'm looking for books narrated by him just to hear him more.

in this story, everyone is a tough guy and a loner. They just go around saying tough guy stuff and be all lone wolfy at each other. Dialogue is straight dookey.

Historia
Switters is a contradiction for all seasons: an anarchist who works for the government, a pacifist who carries a gun, a vegetarian who sops up ham gravy, a cyberwhiz who hates computers, a robust bon vivant who can be as squeamish as any fop, a man who, though obsessed with the preservation of innocence, is aching to deflower his high-school-age stepsister (only to become equally enamored of a nun ten years his senior). Yet there is nothing remotely wishy-washy about Switters. He doesn't merely pack a pistol. He is a pistol.

Oh, Tom Robbins...
Revisado: 04-03-19
I really love this story. I really think I would have loved it more without the cheap political and ill informed religious stuff. Those parts were pretty barfy but mostly brief and largely irrelevant. Besides that stuff, great story and fantastic characters. Tom Robbins knows how to keep it fun.
