This book is inspiring to all those who want to know how they can build a better relationship with our Lord and Savior, or as Chuck Ammons calls him in this book, Daddy. This book provides practical ways to do that, for those who are already heavily involved and those that are looking for ways to get involved in the church.

I have two favorite sections of this book. The chapter where he talks about having your own individual relationship with God, not the relationship that everyone thinks you should have. Lastly, the most moving chapter to me personally, is the one where he describes this life as our “hotel.” It is a must read!

I’ll admit, I am biased since I know Chuck Ammons. He is a better man than he is a writer, and that is saying something since he is a great writer as well. However, I would have enjoyed this book either way!

I chose this book initially because of my affection for Ernie Johnson, Jr. the man and broadcaster. I have been a fan of his work in the various broadcasting roles he has taken on over the years. I also heard him preview the book on ESPN at one point. I was very excited to begin "reading" it via the audiobook. Throughout the story, I found myself gripped by both the performance and the story itself. I am now an even bigger fan of Ernie Johnson, Jr. I would be remiss to not point out my very favorite, yet intensely personal and sad part of the book. In the chapter where he goes into detail about his relationship with his father, he tells a story of times when he would be throwing the ball with his dad. Young Ernie Johnson, Jr. says to his father "just one more, Dad," speaking of his desire to continue playing with him. This brought me to tears and still does every time I think about it. I lost my father in 2009 to lung and bone cancer, when he was only 53 (I was 22). This depiction is the emotion that I've never been able to put into words my exact feeling about losing my father, but this comes as close as anything. Thank you Mr. Johnson for this inspiring book. I am so glad I read it.!
