couldn't put it down
Revisado: 03-10-24
One of the more interesting audiobooks I've listened to in quite awhile. Excellent character development starting in separate stories which eventually merged. Even though "A Nick Lawrence Novel", I'm hoping there will be a "Declan Enright" novel.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Cute story.
Revisado: 01-25-23
Cute story. Competent narration. Well worth light-hearted listening. Some of the internal self-examination was a little much and repetitive, but didn't ruin the story.

Historia
In the near future, the United States has fought a short, bloody war with China in the Pacific. The fighting is over, but the US Navy maintains a blockade. Some call it the First Sino-American War. Others worry it is the start of World War III. In a prison cell in Beijing, Navy fighter pilot Jack Knapp tells his story about the victory in the Battle of Taiwan and how he ended up in a Chinese show trial, accused of crimes against humanity. With his life in the balance, Jack will have to choose between survival and participating in his captors’ lies.

The very best narrator I've ever heard,
Revisado: 01-09-23
Garrett Brown is the absolute best voice narrator I have ever heard. I will have to search for more titles by him.
The story is enjoyable, and could very well be a precursor to tomorrow's headlines. Brown's narration really brings it to life.

Historia
Punk’s War reveals the inner workings of the US Navy as only an insider can. An authentic and riveting thriller, it is a highly acclaimed novel of a fighter pilot’s experience in the era just before 9/11. As the US military enters another postconflict period, the themes of leadership during crisis and accomplishing the mission make Punk’s War more relevant than ever.

An insider’s view
Revisado: 01-08-23
Enjoyed the stories. Continuity lacking at times, but the whole story flowed well enough. Having been a part of the cruiser fleet, it really started to annoy me with the constant references to the carrier as the “boat”. It’s a “ship”! Submarines are boats, not aircraft carriers. Only other inconsistency is that the reader referred to the shipboard announcement system as the IMC, (i.e., eye em cee). It is actually the 1MC, (i.e., one em cee).
Otherwise, a good yarn.

Historia
Simon can only watch, helpless, as his family is killed and his friends captured by enemy Travelers—men and women who can summon mystical powers from otherworldly Territories. To top it off, another young man from Simon's village discovers that he's a savior prophesied to destroy evil and save the realm. Prophecy has nothing to say about Simon. He has no special powers, no magical weapons, and no guarantee that he'll survive. But he sets off anyway, alone, to gain the power he needs to oppose the Travelers and topple their ruthless Overlord.

Author has a story to tell, but doesn't know how.
Revisado: 11-30-22
Very disjointed and poor character development. I can tell the author has a story to tell, but doesn't know how to tell it. The only reason I made it through the whole audiobook is because I had to take a long, long drive and wanted something playing to keep me alert. Too much jumping around without explaining the scenario. Author assumes too much, as if we were actually there and didn't need to explain anything. I cannot recommend this title. It could have been good, but fell short.
