Historia
Over the last few decades, many dark secrets have been pouring out of Christian communities around the world. Most of them focus on some form of misuse of trust or abuse at the hands of church leaders. For centuries religious leaders have “circled the wagons” in an attempt to preserve the money-making institutions they lead. The result has been a continual cycle of abuse and the disillusioned leaving the institutional church world in droves. From 1982-1989, author Bob Scott founded and pastored the Kansas City Fellowship with his friend and then brother-in-law Mike Bickle.

A ‘Must Read’ former insiders perspectives on the Fall of Mike Bickle, IHOP KC and the KC Prophets
Revisado: 02-14-25
As a resident in the KC Metro area and a brief attender of Bickles church in the late 80’s, I knew relatively little about what went on there. This book is written by someone who worked with Mike Bickle long before Mike started his KC ministry and through Bickles initial rise to fame in the 80’s. The author does a good job of telling the story of Mikes rise and the ‘fatal flaws’ already present long before the wheels came off the ‘Mike Bickle’ train.
I also appreciate that he chose to let the victims of Bickles sexual assaults tell their own story (see Julie Roys YouTube channel for those) and instead focused on the parts he knows best…the internal workings of the people, politics and personalities that enabled and facilitated a culture of abuse.

Historia
“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job - set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis”. There are just two problems: The colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets.

Surprisingly Excellent
Revisado: 05-13-22
I’m not actually a huge ‘Aliens’ fan. Found this book as a result of reading other Alex White book.
This is (I think) his second contribution to the ‘Alien’ universe and I found it simply fantastic. Not only are the characters compelling and the plot well conceived but the pacing and overall dramatic arc of this installment was excellent. Of particular enjoyment for me was the way in which we got a little deeper peek into the inner workings of an alien hive. I prefer complicated ‘bad guys’.
It’s not overly scientific but it’s in there too, which I always enjoy when it’s done well.
I’d suggest reading/listening to his first installment (though I don’t think it’s totally necessary) as there are elements of the story that are more meaningful if you understand some of the back story.

Historia
A former religious radio host raised in the cradle of Christianity, Seth Andrews, battled his own doubts for many years. His attempts to reconcile faith and the facts led him to a conclusion previously unthinkable, and this once-true believer ultimately became host of one of the most popular atheist communities on the internet.

I'm not alone!
Revisado: 05-06-15
Seth shares his fitful, sometimes painful and all to familiar anxiety filled journey from fundamentalism to rationalism. He shares deeply about the human and relational impacts of "coming out" as an atheist after you've spent a lifetime of shared belief with friends and family. His story has had a profound effect on helping me come to terms with the same struggles.

Life is getting better at an accelerating rate. Food availability, income, and life span are up; disease, child mortality, and violence are down all across the globe. Though the world is far from perfect, necessities and luxuries alike are getting cheaper; population growth is slowing; Africa is following Asia out of poverty; the Internet, the mobile phone, and container shipping are enriching people's lives as never before.

A rational response to chicken little
Revisado: 01-17-11
Wow. After listening to this book for a third time in the last year, I decided I needed to write a review.
This book provides a well constructed, reasonable walk through time to give the reader some true perspective about our current condition relative to all those that have come before us.
At a time when media coverage is based around telling us what's wrong with us, our planet and our country, this book provides a practical antidote. Part historical narrative, part social anthropological study and part defense for science, technology and capitalism, this should be required reading for every high school student so they have something to balance their exposure to an almost completely reactionary media without any historical perspective.
It's true, there is a reason to believe mankind has a bright future! Who knew?
