Great Twist
Revisado: 04-21-25
The suspense was fantastic! I had a very hard time pausing the audio to do other things; I just wanted to keep going. Great storyline, focusing on the individual relationships, and also drawing correlations between the families. This is a must read for anyone who loves suspense! I was not previously familiar with this author, but will look forward to reading more from her!

My New Favorite Author
Revisado: 06-23-24
I love the way Marian brings the reader into the mind of the character with both humor and sensitivity. And, as someone who grew up within the Irish Culture, it is heartwarming to be reminded of the explicitly Irish ways of tackling life, family, and ourselves.

Historia
Meet Rachel Walsh. She's been living it up in New York City, spending her nights talking her way into glamorous parties before heading home in the early hours to her hot boyfriend Luke. But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.

Revisado: 06-11-24
I loved everything about this book! At once serious as well as hilariously funny, I haven't enjoyed a book this much in I don't remember how long. What a fabulous author and narrator - the two don't always go hand in hand - now Marion Keyes has become a favorite!

Incredible!
Revisado: 05-08-22
Loved this book yet so sad. The ending was a bombshell & I found myself wishing the author could have woven a different outcome for Laurel & Floyd. Helen Duff's narration was very well done & her Irish accent flawless, with the only exception being her choice of voice for Hannah. That could be just me, though. I highly recommend this book!

Disappointing from the start
Revisado: 09-16-21
I couldn't see past the first couple of chapters; it was painful to listen to. The narrator's pronunciation of the English & Scottish accents is horrendous and she has no understanding of the inflections typically observed in British & Scottish dialects. She would do well to enlist the services of a voice coach. Her voice, overall, is promising, but she ruined any redeeming qualities this book may have had for me.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.
