Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

A perspective of history that’s more important to hear than ever
Revisado: 10-22-20
Zinn’s tome has been blasted by some critics for having a socialist bias, but has not the history we’ve been taught in school also been biased (and whitewashed)? Zinn says there is no such thing as a pure fact but that every “fact” presented is a judgment: a judgment was made that THIS fact is important and other, omitted, facts are not important. We are becoming more and more divisive because we are picking and choosing our facts (along with our non-facts) without looking at the whole picture. Read this book and start opening your perspective.

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

Struggled to hear some of the parts
Revisado: 11-13-19
My son and I tried to listen to this while on a road trip. We just couldn't make out some of the words some characters are saying. I've found that to often be the case on the audiobooks that are set up with multiple voice actors (in the way of a radio drama) than with the audiobooks that are read by one narrator.

Marnie MacGraw wants an ordinary life - a husband, kids, and a minivan in the suburbs. Now that she’s marrying the man of her dreams, she’s sure this is the life she’ll get. Then Marnie meets Blix Holliday, her fiancé’s irascible matchmaking great-aunt who’s dying, and everything changes - just as Blix told her it would. A sweet charming escapist tale
Revisado: 08-07-18
A sweet story that will make you believe in the power of love. I was enchanted by Blix and rooting for Marnie, even when I wanted to strangle her for her choices. The narrators for both the main characters were very good. A nice choice if you’re looking for a story with a light tone.

Naomi: When I was kidnapped, I thought only of survival. I gave my captors exactly what they wanted: my skill with computers. Making millions for a crime lord who kept me imprisoned in his basement compound kept my family safe. When he was taken out, I thought my ticket to freedom had arrived. Wrong. I traded one keeper for another. This time I'm in the hands of a scarred, dark, demanding Russian who happens to be the head of the Bratva, a Russian crime organization.

My favorite of the series
Revisado: 11-13-17
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story of the Russian hit man and the computer hacker with Asperger syndrome. But I thought the story came off really well and the narrators did a good job bringing out the personalities of each character. There were some places that were really dark (and REALLY, um, weird) but I loved how these two people just seemed to be right for each other. Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 09-22-17
I was so sad when this audiobook ended! And it's a long one! A really compelling, engaging story that is beautifully narrated (I could listen to Nicholas Boulton 24/7). I wil definitely be listening to this story again someday but first I am going to listen to some of Laura Kinsale's other books first!

Historia
Rosie Maldonne is outspoken and sexy. She's also unemployed, and, with three children and a cat, life is a little tough. The four of them - well, five, if you count the cat - live in the South of France, in a run-down trailer near a vacant lot. They make do, living off her part-time waitressing job and a little help from the state.

Narrator was fine, story was a little lagging
Revisado: 01-05-17
It was hard to keep my interest with the storyline. Hard to stay engaged with the story, although it got better toward the end.
