Historia
A behind-the-scenes operator at the CIA, Wallace was integral to the agency's secret war against China's national intelligence service, which infiltrates government offices, major businesses, and systems crucial to our security. Wallace had severely damaged China's Washington spy ring with a devastating ruse, a so-called "black swan", in which a deep-undercover female agent targeted and destroyed a key Chinese official. Now, Wallace's mysterious death suggests that the CIA itself has been compromised and that China has someone inside the agency.

Started Okay but Swirled Out of Control
Revisado: 07-29-22
Everyone enjoys a surprise or two in reading a thriller but this story lost control of itself. It slid into silliness where nothing was as it seemed and then the author needs to spend the last thirty minutes explaining all the craziness to the reader/listener. Yes, it reminded me of the those crazy Scooby-Doo cartoons where nothing was as it appeared because old Farmer Brown was really wearing a mask posing as a ghost to scare those darn teenagers off the farm.
Dick Hill did an excellent job of narration as usual only mixing up accents a couple times.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

Sterile Interpretation
Revisado: 05-16-22
I was very surprised to find such a sterile reading of the founding documents of our country.
Neither heart nor passion are to be found in Adler's exposition. The man who knows so well the great books shows little appreciation for nor historical context of these obvious thunderbolts of democracy.
Instead he offers logical and philosophical criticisms and corrections.
I cannot help but muse that the author was battling a bad case of digestive distress that doomed this dispepsic discourse.

The first book in this series was excellent. This audiobook, the second in the series, is a stinker! I tried for five hours, but the story dragged on and on, while going nowhere.
I abandoned it at that point.

American Hero: Booker T. Washington
Revisado: 12-12-20
Booker T. Washington is a remarkable American hero that transitioned from being born into slavery to being an inspirational leader and first principal of the Tuskegee Institute (Now know as Tuskegee University.).
The generation of brave men and woman who lived through this time have a lot to say and Booker Taliaferro Washington does it well. He is upbeat and encouraging. Full of the vision of what is possible and never short on ideas on how to accomplish it.
This book is well worth a listen.
The narration is best described as clear, but brisk.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

Preposterous Story & Terrible Narration
Revisado: 09-20-20
This is a review of the audio-book presentation of Memory Man by acclaimed author David Baldacci. This is volume one in a multi-volume series.
Suspension of disbelief is often par for the course in a detective novel and gifting the main character Amos Decker hyperthymesia could be a useful trait for a detective. Without giving up any spoilers, let's just say that the rest of the story was not well grounded it was in fact preposterous. Having allowed Baldacci the right to use hyperthymesia for Decker, the rest of the story ought to be set on sturdy feet, but it is not. I found the entire story line more that just unbelievable, it was preposterous.
The delivery of the story was also wearisome and relied on endless explanations by monotonous Amos Decker monologues. I prefer more action in a story and better use of conversation to convey information and story-line progress. It seemed to me that Balducci took the lazy way out and simply provided massive information dumps via Decker's speeches.
The narration of the first half of this audio-book was torture. The narrator stopped and started dozens of times with each re-start changing the volume or tone or inflection enough that I often wondered if it was a different narrator. Shame on the publishers for allowing this sloppiness.
In summary, this first volume is a hard pass.

Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.
