Historia
A commander who bled to defend her people, Ahnna is haunted by two beliefs. The first is that she failed to protect Ithicana from invasion. And the second is that saving her homeland means leaving it behind forever. The Maridrinians left Ithicana in ruins and its people impoverished. So when the wealthy kingdom of Harendell claims her as a bride for its crown prince, Ahnna is prepared to do whatever it takes to gain influence as the future queen. And to control the gold that comes with the throne.

An Explosive Ending
Revisado: 01-16-25
Well paced, high stakes fantasy romance with a strong & honorable FMC. Jensen writes an intriguing plot filled with court intrigue, politics, betrayals and forbidden love.
I ate up the last 4 hours of this listen as the plot thickened more and more with twist after twist after twist.

Brutal
Revisado: 08-25-24
Brown out does himself with the scale of war, betrayals and heists in Dark Age. It's more savage than the GOT red wedding and Jon Snows attempt to reclaim House Stark. No character is left unscathed by the ravages of war and chaos.

This reads like a contemporary romance but with orcs and elves and all the drama that can ensue from an inter-species relationship. I love these characters!

Historia
One moment a man sits on a suburban hill, gazing curiously at the stars. The next, he is whirling through the firmament, and perhaps the most remarkable of all science fiction journeys has begun. Even Stapledon's other great work, 'Last and First Men' pales in ambition next to 'Star Maker' which presents nothing less than an entire imagined history of life in the universe, encompassing billions of years.

Dense adventure into the universe
Revisado: 04-29-21
I found myself re-reading several chapters and annotating quite a bit. Stapledon packs quite a bit of fantastical journeys in imaginary galaxies, planets, and humanoid cultures. There's so much material to take inspiration from to inform hundreds of other sci-fi stories. He writes all of this in beautiful prose that is reflective and dense.
Highly recommend if you're looking for vintage sci-fi.

Better pacing than the previous two books and overall the story was more fluid and didn't read like a collection of short stories.

Great intro to Thrawn and Chiss culture
Revisado: 12-02-20
Great narration by Marc Thompson. There is an interesting assortment of characters that he gives unique voices to. This helps to differentiate between them more easily. Thrawn is such an interesting character and this story explored his thought process and strategy building from early in his career. I also learned about his native Chiss culture and how the Ascendancy is the driving force behind making or breaking careers.

There’s something out there: A juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic - unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it. Revan: Hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians - and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares - and deep, abiding fear.

Excellent entry into the Old Republic!
Revisado: 07-26-20
My first read in the Star Wars Old Republic and this story does not disappoint!
The story is focused on a Jedi master, Revan, and a Sith Lord, Scourge. They live on opposing sides of the galaxy and of the force.
Revan is a renowned Jedi master that has achieved significant victories against the Sith but at a great cost to himself and his fellow Jedi. His past includes a short-lived but consequential turn to the dark side, a past that the Jedi council erased from his memory but now is coming back in bits in pieces. He now lives peacefully on Coruscant with his wife, Bastila Shah. After meeting with an old friend and comrade, a Mandalorian mercenary named Canderous Ordo, he decides to help him uncover the truth regarding the disappearance of the mask of Mandalore.
On the Sith world planet of Dromund Kaas, a Sith Lord, Scourge, is commissioned to assist a member of the Dark Council, Darth Nyriss, with the search for the assassin who has committed multiple attempts on her life. Young and arrogant in his power, he quickly sees an opportunity to prove himself and better his peers. However, he quickly learns that the situation is not what it seems and greater political power plays are at stake.
Read by Marc Thompson, I thoroughly enjoyed his style of narration and his talent for voicing the characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
