A unique narrative; an age old story

This incredible story made me laugh and cry many times. If you are bored and searching for a title to try, get this one and buckle up. This is one boy and his two best friend’s traverses and travails through childhood, high school and on through his 40’s.

As a man in my own 40s, I found this book remarkably valuable in reminding me of the many emotions of childhood and schools days, and how extreme they could seem, in the positive or negative. Then to juxtaposition them against “real life” and realize that while the names, age and trials change, the real battle is always with the voice inside your own head. It is never ‘will i choose to believe?’ but it is actually ‘What will I believe?’.

Sam Hill was a great story about the things we battle and how despite these great obstacles, we ultimately still get to choose our own path.

Distracting narration. Would be easier to enjoy w/o accent. Otherwise well researched and informative. One. More. Word.

Ive never heard a story where they drink coffee around the clock, all hours of the day and night. One scene after the next. Like a drink sport. Pour coffee. Drink coffee. Cradle coffee cup. Next scene: friend makes coffee, hold coffee cup, drink coffee, finish coffee, refill cup. So on and so forth. Distracting and right down silly. Story takes no unexpected turns: all totally predictable. Hero’s are superhuman, villains are decently developed. Everyone “swears softly and bitterly”, repeats that line a comical amount of times. More coffee. Pour it. Drink it. Comment on it. More and more. Elementary writing style. Kind of like a bad L’amour knockoff.
Hard to finish. Save your credit.

Simon Tolkien‘s rendering of his grandfather‘s life was not without merit. However, Simon‘s hostility towards God, despite his grandfather’s well documented Christianity was one of the most glaring and disappointing features of this book. Over and over again, the author took aim at God and delivered one puny blow after another into the sky above his head: a true disgrace. Made all the worse considering his grandfather’s high view of Jesus Christ and Christianity, which he had earned during a life difficulty and remarkably well lived.
I suppose the best I could say about this story is that a man’s true colors will always shine through in the end. JRR Tolkiens have and will continue to. Unfortunately, despite his God-given talent as a writer, so does Simon’s in this narrative.

I am an average guy. No special education or love for classic literature was ever taught to me. The closest thing to this book Ive ever read was probably Oliver Twist.
I greatly enjoyed this story however, having zero background in the French language and little knowledge of their titles and 19-20th century customs I lost the thread a couple times.
I highly suggest referencing an online character map to help with what is going on especially when the story begins to change multiple peoples names and introduce multiple new seemingly unrelated names.
They are all important eventually so you will want to know who is who. There are even AI tools online (chatG P T, etc) who you can ask to clarify chapters (wherever you are) without ruining future events.

With those aids I enjoyed the story immensely and would recommend to anyone wishing to complete a true classic.

The narrator was magnificent.

Read all of LL’s books. This one wasn’t a favorite. The way the ‘enemy’ outfit disintegrated in the end made little sense after being described multiple times early in the story as ‘mostly gunmen’ as opposed to cattlemen.
However the descriptions of scenery in the book was different and great. A rare cowboy story played out in the cold and snow. Overall worth a listen, just not near the best of this author or genre.

Ryan Pitterson did not reach for the deep, spacey tendencies that grip too many authors who tackle the subject of the nephilim.
Despite his insistence on keeping his material biblically grounded and provable, the book was still cataclysmic in its reach.
To any serious Christian who wants to get a real grasp on what was truly going on in the the OT, I urge you to read this book. It completely and logically, by scripture, revealed so many things that I did not previously understand but took by faith anyway. As usual, faith in God and His Word is never disappointing in the long run.
Thank God for Brother Pitterson’s hard work here and God’s faithfulness. Proverbs 25:2 in action.

We don’t need complicated concepts that tickle our intellectual fancy. We. Need. God. The simplicity of Christ. The administration of the Holy Spirit.
Tozer gets it. He helps us get it too.
Skip this if you just want another “revelation” you won’t walk in. Listen if you are willing to actually dip in the Jordan 7x.

As always, provides a challenging and relevant way to conduct Christian life. The entire world is under judgement. All of it. Gods purpose, his Word, and the Spirit in us, is forever.

Not a story at all really. More like a man drowning in a sea of distraught reflections. Certainly talented writing. Felt almost like the author was toying with the reader in some ways. It was forgivable though bc the head snapping turns of internal dialogue on paper seemed to reflect an inner desperation rarely put to paper. Not sure if I’ll try Dostoevsky again. Perhaps so, though not positive what one gains from all the emo-mental acrobatics.
