Historia
Biography of Joseph Smith as written by his mother, Lucy Mack Smith. Shortly following the death of Joseph Smith in 1844, and into 1845, Lucy Mack Smith dictated her recollections and family story to Nauvoo schoolteacher Martha Jane Coray. Coray worked with her husband to compile these books of notes and other sources into a manuscript, which was then copied. Although surrounded by a great deal of controversy when first published by Orson Pratt in 1853, it was later published by the Church under the direction of Joseph F. Smith. It has been called "one of the essential sources for Mormon origins" by Richard L. Anderson, and in the words of Leonard Arrington it "perhaps tells more about Mormon origins than any other single source."

Exceptionally bad narrator
Revisado: 05-13-20
The narrator is so bad that she is actually inhibits understanding the story, and the story deserves read and appreciated. I acknowledge the difficulty in reading a narrative written almost 200 years ago, but that is exactly the reason the narrator needs to be quite skilled. C.M. Rick is neither a skilled nor talented narrator. 1) She did not read with a natural flow that encourages understanding and invites the listener to join the journey of the narrative. Instead, she read with a bizarrely unnatural cadence, almost like she was reading some sort of poem (and reading the poem badly). This made her stress unusual words within phrases and separate ideas. Moreover, the level of stress not varied as it would be in natural conversation. I hoped she would improve as she relaxed, but she did not. The whole book follows this pattern. Listening to her voice was excruciating. 2) She read with her throat closed, which made almost every dialogue sounded like a terrified, girly-girl mouse. This was a terrible thing do to the Prophet's voice as well with his brothers and strong women in the story. It made them seem spineless and effeminate. The only exception were Mother Smith's voice and the bad guys', Rick never made their voices weak or effeminate. 3) The greatest pronunciation error was applied to the name Moroni, which this narrator ended like macaroni. Seriously, Moronee? He is so important that he stand on every temple! How could Rick make this mistake EVERY time she said this name?
Honestly, I don't believe anyone should buy the audio book UNLESS it is re-recorded with a skilled narrator who is able to do this story justice. C.M. Rick actually lessens the value. I hoped the issues described above would get better as I progressed through the chapters, but she doggedly continued with ZERO improvement, and the result was great disappointment.

Historia
The Old Testament - written in ancient Israel by many different authors over the course of a thousand years - has had more meaning to more people than any other book the world has known. In a series of 24 lively lectures, Professor Levine explores selected passages from the texts known as the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and the Tanakh, revealing how fresh research and findings from scholars of archaeology, cross-cultural studies, and comparative religion can deepen your understanding.

Diasappointing
Revisado: 12-18-19
I thought this was going to be a more academic and objective explanation of the Old Testament accounts. Instead, the author seems to make fun of characters. Genesis as a comparative mythology worked because of comparative details. When she started with sagas, it seems she was trying for comedy. I stopped listening in chapter 4. Her voice is very annoying.

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Love it but prefer author’s reading
Revisado: 11-23-18
My first book by Brené Brown was Dare to Lead read by the author, and I decided mid book to get the foundation of earlier books. I was disappointed to find that the author did not read The Gifts of Imperfection. I stayed disappointed even though I loved the content.

More than 5 stars
Revisado: 07-23-18
If I could give more than 5 stars, I certainly would have. My relationship with God was so connected to that of my earthly father, which results in no relationship and misperceptions. This book really helped me see that and the beautiful and loving possibilities of God.

So relevant in the Information Age
Revisado: 11-25-17
I am reading the original Dale Carnegie version while I listed to this audio. The audio includes powerful concepts of the book but what is most important is that there is so much research supported information to help one better communicate in today's age of quick electronic connections with others
