Historia
Justin Barber said that he and his wife, April, were tipsy and amorous, having celebrated their third wedding anniversary with dinner and cocktails, as they strolled along the water's edge in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 17, 2002. That's when a strange man approached the couple in an attempted robbery that left April dead, according to Justin's testimony. But when police looked deeper into the case, the details didn't add up.

Narrator Is Too Monotone
Revisado: 02-15-18
Although predictive, the story was good. It could have been a Lot better had the narrator put some excitement into it. I literally fell asleep the first time listening.

Glorious is set against the backdrops of the Jim Crow South, the Harlem Renaissance, and the civil rights era. Blending the truth of American history with the fruits of Bernice L. McFadden's rich imagination, this is the story of Easter Venetta Bartlett, a fictional Harlem Renaissance writer whose tumultuous path to success, ruin, and revival offers a candid portrait of the American experience in all its beauty and cruelty.

Makes Me Appreciate Living In The 21st Century
Revisado: 03-14-13
I read this book first, then I listened to it. Both times I tried to envision what it must have been like for this young black woman, who was well educated for her time, the Jim Crow era, to live a life so unfulfilling. Although it was a well written story, I was hoping for more. I wasn't quite satisfied. Alfre Woodard was an amazing narrator, in which she brought each character to life; she made them real to me. I appreciate the women who lived during these times, who made such sacrifices, which allow me to be the woman I am today.

It’s the summer of 1973, and Joe Castle is the boy wonder of baseball, the greatest rookie anyone has ever seen. The kid from Calico Rock, Arkansas, dazzles Chicago Cubs fans as he hits home run after home run, politely tipping his hat to the crowd as he shatters all rookie records.

A Different Kind of Grisham
Revisado: 08-13-12
This was a surprisingly different type of book than what I am accustomed to with John Grisham. But it did not disappoint.
At first I thought that the narrator, Erik Singer, was boring and flat. However, as the story progressed, I understood why and appreciated how his tone fit the character for the story line. It was a sad story but unfortunately, real life stories are not always happy. Still, although somewhat predicable, it held my interest to the very end.
What I appreciated the most was the element of forgiveness. It was good to know that Joe Castle had forgiven Warren long before Warren even thought to ask for it. As for Warren's character, it was sad that it took the circumstances in his life to finally confront Joe.
We should all use Joe Castle's ability to forgive as a real life guide.
Thank you John Grisham and Erik Singer. Well done!

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Any additional comments?
I listened to this book not knowing what to expect. I have never watched the show 30 Rock and I watched less than a handful of SNL shows when Tina Fey played on it. I will say, the one real reason I chose this book was due to her outstanding portrayal of Sarah Palin. She was spot on! After reading/listening to Bossypants, I'm still not sure why she chose this title. Is it just me? In the beginning I felt I knew where she was going with it, but then she lost me. Even though she made references to the title a few times, I don't think it fit. She made me laugh from time to time especially when she was trying not to use her husband's real name and was totatlly unsuccessful at it. But I didn't find it any where as funny as other readers did. This may be due to my being unable to relate to her as we are from different generations. The one area I can relate to is being a parent and wanting to spend as much time with your child as humanly possible. Especially when they are babies. She was very fortunate to have the type of job where she was able to take her baby with her when she needed to. Although this wasn't the book for me, I give Tina Fey Kudos for an excellent job in her narration. She has a very expressive voice that helped me make it through to the end. Will I listen to another book by Tina Fey? Probably not.
