Historia
For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

Susannah Narration makes the book even better!

Although I'm torn between a 4 and a 5, I've decided to go with 5 stars. Mainly, because I can't remember the last time I binge-read (or in this case listened) to an audio-book for two days. I couldn't wait to finish my job just to plug my earbuds and listen to Susannah Jones narrating the book. Her accent doubled with the atmosphere setting in the book is hands down one of the primary reasons I liked this book.
If you want to read this book, I highly recommend the audio version on audible. And I've just ordered a paperback copy on amazon to read it again by myself.
If you were intrigued by the book's blurb good for you. The story starts exactly like that. The setting is in France: magic + wine + France, a lovely compilation
The author excelled at world development, witchcraft, covens, witches, simple romance arc. My favorite scenes in particular where those that discussed witchcraft and spellworks.
Unfortunately, the plot doesn't thrive from there. There was so much potential for a different kind of story, a one the focused on wine making, black magic, fight between witches, etc... But it took a whole different route than I expected.
Don't get me wrong, the plot in whole is GOOD/Enjoyable, but there's this hint of disappointment that it could have been something else, something much much better. Elena's journey in returning Château Renard honor, her witchcraft against Bastion's wife, discovering the true dark magic behind the hexes, discovering more about her curse, finding love and forgiveness, etc.
I don't want to spoil anything, but in general the book is amazing, and it's a read I guarantee you won't regret. Highly recommenced.

What makes a romance novel a romance? Writing a well-structured romance isn't the same as writing any other genre - something the popular novel and screenwriting guides don't address. The romance arc is made up of its own story beats. Told in conversational (and often irreverent) prose, Romancing the Beat is like sitting down to coffee with romance editor and author Gwen Hayes while she explains story structure - the way she does with her clients, some of whom are regular inhabitants of the best-seller lists.
