The Business of Expertise, David’s previous book, set the stage by suggesting a narrow focus and then capitalizing on the patterns that emerge from repeated application of your expertise. This book builds on that work by suggesting how to craft a consulting practice with those insights.

A purposeful, forward-thinking approach to marketing
Revisado: 02-05-23
Mark Schaeffer continues to challenge the status quo of marketing and pushes marketers to think like humans and address the human need for belonging. Mark tells personal stories and examples to explain the power of creating a brand that creates a sense of belonging.
I use Mark’s’ book, Marketing Rebellion for textbook in my marketing course at Indiana University. “Belonging to the Brand” provides deeper lessons on psychology and social behavior in our society to help us engage with the consumer in a meaningful way. When consumers belong to the brand they stick with the brand and they become the brand advocates.
Mark pushes us to be better marketers and do work that we can be proud of by connecting consumers to brands with a purpose.

Historia
Author David Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. Brooks looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.

Mark always provides great advice
Revisado: 08-11-20
With 30 years in the world of marketing and advertising, I have collected oodles of books on all topics in this field. I can confidently say that Mark’s books are in the stack of favorites. In fact, use Marketing Rebellion as my course textbook at Indiana University. This book of lessons was really unique because it was entertaining and super practice. Mark’s real- world experiences and storytelling make the “lessons” relatable and easy to remember. Mark’s honest yet humble style makes you feel like he is a friend or colleague simply shooting the breeze on what is on his mind. It’s a very fun read/listen.

Historia
There is an unofficial rule for success: You need to change who you are to achieve greatness. But it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you could leverage your so-called vices and shortcomings and make them your super powers? Rare Breed is an unorthodox business book for the rebels, outsiders, and provocateurs - anyone with the ambition to lead, create, inspire and provoke change on your own terms by owning all of who you are, not just the pretty parts. But be careful, each virtue has a seductive and dualistic nature that can lead to success or sabotage.

A Standing O for these two birds
Revisado: 04-05-20
As an agency owner and adjunct instructor of an advertising course at Indiana University, I applaud these gals for breaking the mold, defying the norms and standing up to so many who tried to hold them down. Their struggle is so real and inspiring. Their perspective is so mature. They are so wise beyond their years. Their passion for brand messages that are authentic and human is what we need more of in our marketing world. I highly recommend this book to those in any creative industry or entrepreneurial endeavor.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Brene nails it again with her raw truth about real-world psychology of today. She challenges you to go “into the wild” even though it is hard and scary. She coaches you on how to handle difficult situations and motivates you to have a strong back and soft front. I wish this book was mandatory in all high school curriculums.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Should Be Required Reading
Revisado: 12-08-09
I am a very picky reader, but I can confidently say that this book is very well written on topic that is still relevant today. The audio version is outstanding because the voices really help bring the characters to life. I think it should be required reading for every secondary school student in America. Sure hope it becomes a movie.
