Why is Jake suddenly an idiot?

in the first book, Jake made many mistakes, but he also proved himself to be smart and talented. So it was realistic. In this book I'm able to make every connection 10 sentences before he realizes what's going on, and it he's written in like he's stupid and can't make easy connection. I loved the first book but this isn't the same. Also, he attained godhood and is just as weak? I don't get it...

Why did the narrator decide to ruin this book? I don't know if I could come up with worse voices on purpose. Every time Saphira or the werecat speak, I'm amazed again at just how stupid and awful there mind voices are and it pulls me right out of the story. Great author, especially for his age, but he should have vetted his narrator better

Penelope is such an annoying idiot.

Penelope is such an idiotic, bossy and just all around unlikable character that treats Mort like he's an idiot baby that needs to be told what to do at every turn... it's just annoying to listen to, especially when he just accepts it. If I stop listening to the series, it will be because the audience is clearly supposed to like Penny but I can't stand her. The book would be better if she wasn't written into it.

Balance of good and bad

I hold a special place in my heart for this book series, but one thing the author does (that often times i wish he didnt) is, anytime something good happens its always balanced by something bad. The "bad" events are often are often worse than the "good" events are good, so it can take on a rather dark cast. I hope soon, something positive can occur in the series without immediately being followed by something heartbreaking.

The story is great, but the narration takes some getting used to. Some of the characters were given downright weird voices that you would never hear in the real world.

I understand that it's a slice of life, but this book was slow even for that. I enjoyed it, but I was also looking forward to certain events coming to fruition that did not. Very little action even for a SOL
