Gotta love Bill Nye
Revisado: 06-06-18
What a fun book to listen to! I have always loved seeing Bill Nye on TV. At 58 years old I just now learned how to tie my shoes so they don't keep coming untied! Thanks Bill for filling in that gap in my education and for all the other cool stuff. I appreciate Bill's honesty and curiosity. Character traits that I highly value.

Historia
In this smart and funny book, celebrated cartoonist Zach Weinersmith and noted researcher Dr. Kelly Weinersmith give us a snapshot of what's coming next - from robot swarms to nuclear fusion powered-toasters. By weaving their own research and interviews with the scientists who are making these advances happen, the Weinersmiths investigate why these technologies are needed, how they would work, and what is standing in their way.

Delightful. Easy to follow description of technologies on the horizon with just the right amount of humor. I can imagine that the authors have a great relationship and lots of fun together. I especially liked the discussion of topics that didn't make it into the book, well not as entire chapters anyway. I thought that the book kept getting better and was kinda disappointed that it wasn't longer.

Any additional comments?
I took some concentration at the beginning to keep the characters straight (like most my mysteries) but flowed rather nicely with interesting twists and turns that certainly kept my attention. Awesome ending.

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Would you listen to The Elephant Whisperer again? Why?
I loved all the elements. Nature, environment, story and even a bit of psychology. Lawrence Anthony was truly brilliant in the ways he related to the elephants, his staff and the surrounding communities.
What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?
Everything! I loved his accent, intonations, enthusiasm and ability to pronounce African words.
Any additional comments?
I could listen to 50 more books like this! Excellent!

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Revisado: 03-19-13
What other book might you compare The Gifts of Imperfection to and why?
"For Better" by Tara Parker Pope. Both combine scientific research with their personal journey making it "real" to the listener. Both have been very helpful to me. It's been 2 years since I listened to "For Better" and I am as grateful as ever for the wisdom she shared. I expect that The Gifts of Imperfection will have no less of a lasting effect.
Any additional comments?
I have struggled with feelings of inadequacy all my life. I have put a great deal of effort in trying to understand how the brain (mine) works, particularly over the past 2-3 years. The insight I gained from this book really stands out! I love Lauren Fortgang's narration. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
In this book, we travel inside Emily's and Paul's brains as they attempt to sort the vast quantities of information they're presented with, figure out how to prioritize it, organize it, and act on it. Fortunately for Emily and Paul, they're in good hands: David Rock knows how the brain works - and more specifically, how it works in a work setting. Rock shows how it's possible for Emily and Paul, and thus the listener, not only to survive in today's overwhelming work environment but succeed in it - and still feel energized and accomplished at the end of the day.

There is some practical advise here. I enjoyed it very much. The only audiobook I have listened to twice. It is very well formatted, blending ideas with stories to guide the listener to greater understanding. I found the information is very relevant and the listening quite enjoyable.

A bit dated.
Revisado: 10-13-11
Narration is good and keeps your interest. The idea that we should blame bad design and not ourselves for mistake is stated repeatedly throughout the book. To my disappointment I found the examples to be dated. He discusses VCRs as if they were more commonly used than DVDs. At one point he said he envisioned a portable computer that could be taken anywhere plugged into a phone within 5 years. How long has the iPhone been out? It would have been nice if the book updated before making into an audiobook. Turns out that this audiobook was recently released (making it seem like it was a new book) but had been written several years ago.
