This is the funniest series in the history of series, Rick Riordan did an amazing job with the characters. I recommend this series to anyone who loves dark and light humor.

The Boxcar Children go Reality TV

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It had to happen: The kids are on a reality TV show. We've been cracking up as the times have changed but the kids are still the same age. They went from the original setting in the 1920s (the first book) to cell phones and reality TV (this last one). But some things never change - the cracked pink cup figures prominently in the this story? Spoiler alert: Would someone really hold the cracked pink cup hostage to win a reality TV show?!?!

Any additional comments?

We've listened to 124 of these Boxcar Children books now. (We do a lot of driving.) All in perfect chronological succession. Is there anyone else out there who's done that?

The author is hitting her stride now. More mystery, less insipid stuff. Still good, clean, old-fashioned fun listening for kids.

My 6 yr old loves these
But ....
They're good, old-fashioned, squeaky clean fun
But ...
The sexism
The old world values about wealth and commerce
I feel like I need to reset her attitudes about certain issues after each story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend "The Circle" b/c it's a good, timely listen and it's an engrossing story. Especially in Silicon Valley, where I live, it has great relevance. The parallels to Google and Facebook are worth considering. Every time I open the newspaper and read a story about yet another new innovation on the Google or Facebook campuses, I realize just how prescient this novel was. (And yes, I still read the paper version of "the paper." So indeed, I do "open the newspaper.")

Would you listen to How to Train Your Dragon: How to Steal a Dragon's Sword again? Why?

Absolutely! I'd listen again. So would my 6-year-old daughter.

What other book might you compare How to Train Your Dragon: How to Steal a Dragon's Sword to and why?

All of the "How to Train..." books are great for listening.

What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?

David Tennant does an amazing Scottish brogue. He also is good at voicing different characters. I especially like his take on Fishlegs. So funny!

Any additional comments?

By the end of the series, things are getting dark, indeed. As the author says. But it's worth listening.
BTW, Cressida Cowell is my new favorite author. There's no other "voice" in the business quite like hers. For the fart, hairy armpit and odor jokes, alone, she's worth reading.
If I could sit down over dinner with any author, she'd be my choice. I'll bet she's just fun to joke around with. She and my daughter would have a blast together. They'd probably fall on the floor laughing.

If you could sum up Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in three words, what would they be?

Classic clean fun

What did you like best about this story?

First, I love anything read by David Tennant. Second, it's just such a classic story. My six-year-old loved listening to this book. She's a tomboy and loves anything about cars. But having it read by David Tennant makes it even better.

What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?

He's a phenomenal reader. His accent is to die for. I could listen to him for hours. He's at his best in the "How to Train Your Dragon" series. I'd listen to the entire series again just b/c of him.
