Wow. Who saw that coming? I know I didn’t. As you know, I’m the Red Raptor. Now that things have...changed, I’ve asked my friend Amy to help tell the story. No, seriously, she’s just a friend. I mean - I guess if it were up to me? But...no. Okay, so there’s a new threat - a bunch of punks called the Neon Knights. They’re causing mayhem, armed with some kind of plasma-photon-light weapons that I can’t even begin to understand, and as usual, I’ve gotta stop them. However, this time I’ve got help. That’s right, I formed my own superteam. One for the ages.

Interesting story, trying a bit too hard for humor sometimes
Revisado: 12-14-24
The plot and concepts of this book are very interesting, but the narrative tone and sometimes heavy-handed attempts at humor and tangents left me not wanting to rush back to the book until the latter half got more interesting. The narrators’ performances were solid. By the end of the book, Frank is my favorite character. There’s enough of a fresh take on sometimes familiar story concepts that I’m interested in how the story plays out.

He really just likes to liven things up at school -- and he's always had plenty of great ideas. When Nick learns some interesting information about how words are created, suddenly he's got the inspiration for his best plan ever: the frindle. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word. Then other people in town start saying frindle. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero.

Humorous, heartwarming story
Revisado: 06-28-24
I listened to this with my 9-year-old son. He had read part of it in school, and I was familiar with it, but neither of us had read the whole book. It was great! Quick, with great ideas and a good progression of the story. I appreciated the support that Nick received from unexpected sources. We both laughed out loud at parts. Definitely recommend to kids, parents, and teachers. Would make a great read-aloud for those older grades 3-5.

Great performance!
Revisado: 08-07-18
Somehow, I have managed to avoid ever watching or reading Murder on the Orient Express, so the story was actually new to me. It was, of course, riveting. I kept changing my guess on "who dun it". I enjoyed the full cast performance. The different characters were easy to keep straight. There were occasional snippets of overheard conversations that were lower in volume and easy to miss, but the relevant portions were either repeated or restated, so I didn't have to adjust volumes.

Sweet story, ideal narrator
Revisado: 03-18-18
The 8th book in the Walt Longmore series, this story is set only slightly outside of Sheriff Longmire’s typical stomping ground. The story is largely sweet and is interwoven with the lead-up to his daughter’s wedding, but it still deals with crime and its sad effect on community. I did guess the ending well ahead of time, but I think that’s okay. The usual wry humor and character development are excellent. George Guidall is the perfect narrator for this series.

The six Herdman children are “absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world”. They lie and steal and smoke cigars. They even burned down Fred Shoemaker’s old toolhouse. Now they’re taking over the Christmas pageant. The Herdmans have never heard the Christmas story before, and they don’t know anything about shepherds or Wise Men. When Imogene hears about the swaddling clothes, she demands to know why anyone would tie up a baby and put him in a feedbox.

My 8-year-old daughter and I enjoyed listening to this on a car trip. I thought it was touching, and I think she's interested in reading the other book by the same author. The narrator was excellent.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Well done
Revisado: 08-29-17
I love this book, but was nervous to listen to the full cast audio production, fearing it would be overdone. Instead, each character got it his or her own voice, but it wasn't distracting. Four stars because I wasn't a fan of Valentine's constantly pleading tone, but that may just be my bias. Overall, very well done.
PS It did seem like the book that would never end, with a preview of another book by the author at the end, followed by a long but interesting monologue by the author recapping the novella and then book and then movie's journey to publication, and then (!) another very brief message from the author for the "young reader" edition. I enjoyed the content but thought several times I was done and then I wasn't.

Helpful, moving, probably better to read than to listen to.
Revisado: 06-15-16
I enjoyed this book. I found several parts very helpful and used bookmarks on Audible for the first time to revisit those parts. I enjoyed the exposition on three major passages (Psalm 23, Ephesians 3, and the Lord's Prayer in Matthew) and the proposed outlines throughout. Tim Keller uses several enlightening metaphors.
I did find my attention waxing and waning in the car, more a function of grounding and reiterating several points such that my attention waned than any fault of the narrator. It is naturally hard to follow an outline while listening. I preferred the attention to Scripture and the practical examples more than the frequent quoting of past Christian authors and preachers.
Overall, I recommend it and am considering buying the text to have for reference and review.

Historia
A mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video-game industry. In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video-game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But all that would change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a former Mattel executive who knew nothing about video games and everything about fighting uphill battles.

Even better than Super Mario
Revisado: 11-14-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, especially to a peer that grew up in the 1980s and '90s. Though it often reads as a memoir of Tom Kalinsky (sp?) and focuses much more on Sega than Nintendo, it was an entertaining listen and the back-and-forth explained various moves made by Sega, Nintendo, and even Sony.
What other book might you compare Console Wars to and why?
I enjoyed listening to Super Mario, and though this book did not dwell on Nintendo nearly as much, it had fewer dry spells for me. Probably because it focused more on the people involved and less specifically on the games. I wanted to keep listening to it until it was over.
